6XC long term commitment continues......

5 or 6 years ago I decided to try the 6mmXC....this was before the "Creed-craze" (I'm coining that phrase) and luckily it turned out to be the bee's knee's of a cartridge. I'm still shooting the original 6XC Criterion pre-fit barrel and it's still going strong.

Today I sent an email to the same outfit that supplied my original barrel (Northland Shooters Supply) asking if they could order me another....lo and behold they have exactly what I wanted on the shelf! A quick phone call later and I've got another 28" Small Shank savage Criterion, 1-8 twist, 6mmXC pre-fit barrel with the 11 degree target crown on the way! Should have it by the end of next week. ....now I need an action!....My 223 AI might have to be a 6XC for a while!.....I love these Savage rifles. Easy to work on if you have some common sense and a small amount of mechanical know-how.

The prairie dogs are in trouble with 2 6XC's shooting at them this summer.

Been shooting Tubb's 6XC since 2005. Started with a T2k, moved into single-shot actions fitted with 30" Bartlein or Brux barrels, chambered exactly the same.

No hunting or BR, strictly NRA-style prone mid- and long-range (sling, match sights) for my interests.

Been seasons when I've not shot it recently, may come back to it this year now that there are more options for high-quality brass.

For awhile I made cases starting with Lapua's superb SRP Palma (308WIN) brass but that's a major PITA. Used some 6.5 Creedmoor too once it appeared, but haven't shot any of that just yet. Looks pretty good though.

The initial accuracy tests are in....The new 6XC barrel shoot as well as the first one!.......Unfortunitly it likes the same 105 Amax load that the other barrel likes....but the supply of Amax bullets is rapidly dwindling. Hopefully I'll have the 87 Vmax wrung out by this summer.

I should give a shout out to Northland Shooters supply for my 3rd (2 6XC's and a 223AI) incredibly accurate pre-fit savage barrel. Varmints hate my Criterion barrels!

Davids latest tests with the 115 DTAC have been using the small primer brass with the Rem 7 1/2 primer and H4350.

I really want a short freebore 6xc in 12 twist.

so savage haters dont read savage threads! Rem 700 footprint for life!
I like any good quality receiver. All I’m sayin is there’s something to be said for being able to put together a rifle at my house that shoots awesome for a third of a full blown custom build. I have rifles in either category. Kinda like having that sleeper of a fast car. Then blowing the doors off the snooty queer in the corvette. And the satisfaction of having done something yourself. Besides, I’m the weak link in the chain with most of the guns I own. I’d imagine that I’m not alone on this if we were to be honest and not be concerned with the status symbol of the equipment but the results.

There's very little money in the budget for my target/varmint shooting hobby. A Savage action with a good trigger and pre-fit barrel can shoot way better than my abilities......it's really all I need......$100 worth of tools and I can change out barrels at will.

The 6xc is a round I've recently gotten into, I'm using reformed 6 creed Peterson srp brass, 112gr barnes match burner, h4350 and it's an amazing combo

I made 6 XC brass with Paul Bike form dies, astounding form dies:

308 once fired Chinese military brass
308 once fired PMC brass
308 once fired and new Lake City brass
308 Palma new brass

In all cases, accuracy was astounding! Chinese military only lasted one firing because initial firing was in a machine gun, but groups were in the small 2's.

Lake city new brass is tough as nails. Palma brass is hard to kill.

If you like Winter projects, forming and neck turning this brass is easy, just time consuming.

I have long barrels, 28"+

Pmc brass shoots the 105's at 3050 with no case loss using H or AA4350, I did not push the envelope with R#17.

I got some new LC brass, and it is very tough, still did not go with upper end R#17 loads as 3050 seems to be a node and brass will last till I loose it.

Palma brass will get you to 3250 in a 31" barrel with R#17, with about 5 firings on the brass with amazing accuracy, at 41.5g. I Droped the load back to the next node at 3150 with the 105's at 40.5g with the lot# that I have.
