6XC dies - what' your favorite setup

Sniper 338,

That looks to be a great combo. Did not know if Wilson offered a seater for the XC. Thanks for the info.

Paul

Sure do! I dont remember exactly, you may have to buy the sinclair micrometer top for it to fix it up nice. I dont remember if it was the 6xc or 22-250ai that i had to do that... maybe both..? But yes... in the end it works.

A widden sizing would also be a good choice from what i hear... im not sure if they make a FL/neck bushing die or not though...

I use a redding FL neck bushing die, and a wilson chamber hand die with a 21st century hydro press..

I use the exact same setup except that I found that for me the seating stem in the Wilson die contacted the bullet too high up on the bullet and gave me inconsistancies in base to ogive measurements. I solved it by using the Wilson along with the hydro press to seat the bullets 3/4 of the way and look at seating force and then seat it the rest of the way with my Forster micro seater and standard press which gives me ammo with very little runout and consistent base to ogive measurements.

I use the Redding type S FL bushing die. I experiment back and forth between using the expander ball and just the bushing. I seem to use just the bushing in my 1-8 twist with a .274NK . I use the Redding 6XC II FL S die with the bushing and the expander ball in place in my 1-7 twist because that is the chamber I have and it seems to shoot very well for me like that. I use a Forster Ultra seater die for both...It must work ok accuracy from both has been 1/4 moa to under . 1/2 moa on a bad day.

I use a Redding full length bushing die as a body die only. A modified Lee collect die to take care of the necks and a Forster Ultra seater. Keeps runout in check and the accuracy is there.

JohnD, what do you do to a Lee die to modify? I was thinking of getting a collet die for my 6XC as I love the ones I have in 260, 308, 06. But, I understand it is a custom die from them as they don't make one in 6XC.

Actually Michael I had a guy modify 2 dies for me and other than machining the collects shorter I'm not sure what else he did but I think there was still another step. It started off as a .243 die and the other was a .204 die that I use for a .20 Practical. The results have been very good.

Warner Tool sizing die allows almost zero length growth and I have some with 20 cycles (reloads). Neil Jones seater gives precise seating

On my XC I have been using a Redding neck bushing die and a Foster FL bushing and mirco seater. All I just built a 338LM and ordered a Whidden FL bushing sizer die, I really like Whidden dies. Well made and beautifully machined and finished.
