6x47 SwMatch Brass--Source? Price?

I've got a friend in Texas who's looking to build a 1000yd gun to shoot the new 115gr DTAC bullet. He's considering the 6XC but I told him about the 6x47 Swiss Match. Everyone I know who's inspected the 6x47 RUAG brass says it's outstanding--better than the current Tubb 6XC brass. Maybe even better than Lapua 6BR brass...

But it's all moot if you can't get your hands on it. What's the Scuttlebutt--does RUAG intend to bring this stuff into the USA anytime soon? Anybody know a source?

Hi there
Only Neal J seems to have a source of once fired 6x47. Everybody else, myself included, is making their own.
Ruag is apparently not interested in marketing here in the USA, they're only making ammo for their own teams.
They're also apparently pretty content if we don't get into 6x47SM over here.
Cheers
Chris

Hi,

I have a loaded case here. t's is exactly in between a 6Dasher and a 243Win in terms of size. Same .475 base, body taper is like that of the 243. It looks nice, but not like a BR case in my eyes. I would remove most of the body taper and increase the shoulder angles to 35° or 40°. Why not just have someone wildcat a 243 or 22-250 case and make reamers? You have to get Dies made for the 6x47SM anyway. The 6mm-250 comes really close to the 6x47SM and you can form the brass to your chamber.

Thanks for the info on the6X47. I have been shooting an improved 243 for several years.
The last batch of cases I formed with the 243RWS brass has been the best of any brass so far.

Jim,
If Lapua made 22-250 brass I would be going for a 6-250 but they don't and neither do Norma. The Ruag 6x47SM brass is superb and I've found a 6x47 die-maker now at reasonable money.

Hi Vince,

Re Lapua... true... but if it is the brass, then why not take the Lapua 243W and set back the shoulders? If you will be neckturning etc, it will not be that much extra work.

Jim

Jim,
Have you seen the David Tubbs webpage for his 6XC? Setting back the shoulders is quite amazing - doing it from a 243 case would be even worse. Fortunately, I have some new 6x47 Swiss Match brass on the way. The Swiss Match case will hold 40 grains of Vit 160 which I reckon will be ideal with the 105/107 bullet.

Norma does make 22-250 brass, Sinclairs usually carries it. Redding will make the dies, as would most die makers for the Swiss Match.

Rust, My apologies - you are right about the 22-250 Norma brass. I'm buying some 6x47 SM dies from Huntingdons - don't know what make though. The Ruag brass has just arrived and it looks superb - very consistent in the neck area.
Cheers

Has anyone here actually built one of the 6x47SM's yet? I'm fed up with SSS and the brass and die situation. My builder is ready to sell his brand new 6XC reamer and go to something else. I'm consindering 6x47, but I don't want to get stuck with the same problem we're having with 6XC, which is lack of brass.

Forming 6x47 is not going to be an option very soon, as 222Mag brass is no more.

So,, is anyone here actually shooting a 6x47 Swiss Match? How much brass does Neal Johnson have, and has another source actaully been found or it still specualtion? If anyone is shooting the 6x47, what is your impression and general observations? How do you like it when compared to the strait 6BR Norma?

Chris--6x47 swiss match is a different beast than the other 6x47

the swiss match is 308 bolt face, not 223 ;)

its btwn a BR and an XC

JB,

Hi

Signed on yesterday and in haste left a message in the Old Reloading Forum. Such was in response to a plea for "Help With Swiss 6mm",6X47 Swiss Match). Not sure my comments actually do help the member but you may find the note of interest. Comes with nice picture of 'cool' rifle too!

Good to see we may now "spell check" entries before submission!

Keep those varmints coming!
