6x47 load development

My go to, safe but "fast" enough node is 38.2 gns of H4350 , a CCI 450 with a 107 smk .005 off running at 2930 fps, no pressure signs & shoots in the .6s at 200 yds regularly. Ive never had this round be "fussy"... at worst it shot moa and that was when I just built one for the first time.

What do y'all consider a good load?
Are y'all reading a target or using a chrono or a pressure calculator or brass life to tell you what a good load is ?
No one has to answer I'm just wondering what I'm missing here..

I do a ladder test, on a clam morning before mirage kicks up, at 400Y, in .1 grain increments, letting the barrel cool a little between each shot. The ES is usually lower in the high node.

I've had good luck with H4831sc, BUT!! I have a .208 freebore so that powder can fit without too much compression. With a normal freebore it might not be the best choice.

Generally speaking, 6x47l can be very deceptive in revealing pressure, especially in a strong action. In longer barrels, like 28", when you get to 3150 fps using 105's, or 3050 fps with 115's you are getting maxed out in pressure but the brass can handle that pressure well anyway. I've gotten higher velocity by 100 fps with both those weight bullets when experimenting but the pressure has to be in the 70,000 psi range so I don't go there anymore.

My most successful load was 115 DTACS at 3007 fps in a 26" 7.5 twist. Next was 105's at 3172 fps in a 8 twist 28".

I'm not sure what your trying relay as a good load, but thanks anyway

ES and SD and volocities constitutes a good load regardless of vertical,Horizontal or group size?

Honestly I don't go crazy with load development anymore.

The load with the 115DTACS I spent 3-4 outings getting it worked out. Maybe 6 hours and it was tuned in pretty well, as good as it could have been with the components I chose to stay with from the onset. This was 8 years ago.

A few years ago, with the 105 hybrid load I guessed at the seating depth because I couldn't reach the lands anymore. It shot so well I left it that way. So in 14 shots I had my load because the last three shots were touching at 323Y. That only took an hour of load development.

Both were capable of 1" at 300Y off a harris bipod if everything went right. I'm not a BR shooter so I was plenty happy!

I personally try to pick the lowest vertical and it usually has low ES.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or any of that stuff rather just trying to understand.
Thanks for putting up with an old man.
Sincerely

I have not tried it in a 6 but my 6.5x47 does like it for sure. about 25fps slower than 4350 to my recollection. I run it behind a 140RDF, shoots great.

Hi Si-Snipe, I run the 6x47L in the UK, in bench rest competition and field.
My load is 39.6 H4350 with 105 hybrids built by baldie.
I've tried at the upper level of the charge, and just like you have found it doesn't get better.
I too ran a RG 6.5x47L, and it ate anything tbh and perfomed.

If I was to surmise out it all, is the case volume vs speed and all other perimeters together, I would go with a 6x47 improved, or keep it simple and run it at the lower known node ie 39.6.

Feel free to ping me a pm for more.
I usually shoot at Gelston 1k range and on the hill.
