6X47 Lapua

Great info guys, I just ordered a 6x47 Lapua can't wait to get started with load development.
Any other load/velocity data you would like to share?

Thanks
Stosh

I shot some Nosler 95 gr. BT this afternoon in my 6 X 47 Shehane.
1 - 8 twist. Only 100 yd.s but had to hide in the woods from so much wind.,35 mph at times) The brass had been fired once and this was my first trial with that bullet. Load consist of 6.5 X 47 lapua brass necked down of course, 40 gr. H-4350,seemed mild) CCI 450 SR Mag. primer. OAL from base to ogive is 2.095 touching lands. Best 5 shot group with this load was .401. The other 2 groups were between .600 and .700. Think I'm gonna back off of neck tension .002. Seems to be too tight when seating with .265 bushing in my Wilson hand die. This is probably the lightest bullet I will try for now. Bill

I have had outstanding results with the 90gr. Berger BT. Rem. 7 1/2 primer, & 37.5 grs. H4831SC. I have not run this load across the chronograph but it is extremely accurate out to 400 yards. Semper Fi

BILLMO,
Are you going to be shooting any 105-6-7's. if so let me know how they do. if you don't mind i am in need of load information.
Iam having 6x47 built as we speak.
Regards,.
Andy

Andy, My 6 X 47 Load consist of 6.5 X 47 Lapua neck sized down to 6 mm and turned down to .267 due to my chamber neck diameter of .270, 41 gr. VV-N560, CCI 450 primer, 105 gr. VLD Berger seated .010 into the lands. My best 500 yd. group so far is .991 and bugholes at 100 yds. I have also began to work with some 95 gr. Nosler BT, 40 gr. H-4350, CCI 450 primer that is showing promise with groups well under 1/2" MOA at 100 yds. Will keep you posted as I progress. I hope this helps. Bill

Bill,
Thanks for the information. Sounds like you have a shooter and know how to drive it. Keep on shooting.

Hello 6x47L lovers.
I happened to run into this forum and had to join immediately so I can share Your knowledge about this caliber. Though I live thousands of miles from the US i suppose our problem´s are the same. I have had my 6x47L for about 4 months so I have not shot more than about 200 rounds yet. I have tried the Scenar 90 and 105 and right now I´m testing the Berger 95 VLDs. So far all of them have worked out very vell and I will provide the loaddata and results as soon as I have converted them into numbers more familiar to You guys. I have a 8" twist Walther Lothar barrel that seems to be tight because I get pressuresigns far before reaching loads that are commonly suggested on US forums. Accuracy is top level and it seems to accept most bullets. I have not tried any lighter than 83 grains flatbase but at least on 100 yards they shot great.

Welcome! Over the coming weeks I will share my findings. Waiting on a new scope before I can start serious testing.

Some testings done today.

I didn´t really expect to manage to get these pictures into the forum so I havent yet converted the loadings into grains.
To be continued......

Upperleft pic. shows the result of my 37,6 grains loading of Vihtavuori N-150 and Berger 95 VLD. It was a pretty windy day and mostly between 10 and 2 a´clock against the bench, so I had difficulties to estimate the strength of the wind as I don´t yet have any propellers on my vindflags. I´m satisfied with the result anyway considering I´m a beginner.

Upperright pic. shows the result, same loading but using a Finnish custom made flatbase bullet, weight 83,5 grains. This could have been a pretty nice group but I decided to see how much winddrift I would get if not compensating in strong sidewind. The result speaks for itself and I DID LEARN something.

Lowleft pic. shows something that should´t be shown but we could say that this is the result of doing just everything wrong.

Lowright pic then confirmed that N-160 40,9 grains and 90 grains bullets can be used together. I have not yet found out that there would be a significant difference in accuracy between the Bergers and the Scenars.

Well this is what i know about the 6x47 Lapua today, time will tell how good it can be.

My Chrony showed speeds up to 3170fps for the Bergers, I´m not sure if I can trust those figures, does anybody have some records
in the 95 weigthclass???

Hi,
New to forum.
I think your chrono is correct. My first five shot group out of my 6x47 was.150 inch at 100yd.shooting 115 dtac's at 3100fps 1and8 twist krieger.Never got my 6.5-284 to shoot like this.I love this cartridge!

I have an MGM mini popper that is four inches at the widest point that is almost too easy to hit at 1000k, light winds ofcourse. If I told you of one of the groups I shot on it at 1000k you would think I was a total BS,er.6x47L just has to be the end all of cartidges in its class.

steve123,

Can you provide the specs on your rifle, such as barrel length, barrel make, etc. I'm looking into having a 6-6.5x47 built, and am trying to figure out the best barrel length to achieve maximum velocity. Thanks.

260AI, 28" is probably going to max out. But I have no credentials. I do own a 6 X 47 Shehane with a 28" Krieger 1 - 8 twist and according to Bill 28 is pretty much max. Bill

260AI

My krieger barrel is 30 inch,RFD benchrest action,glued in,rifle ways 20lbs,custom dies,wilson arbor seater.

Don't know anything else about the barrel. My gunsmith ordered it.
it is throated out so far that 105's won't seat deep enough.
My load was 39.5/n160,boron coated 115dtac,actual AV was 3089fps.

Yesterday was first time competition for me and my 6x47 Lapua.
It was 300m UL and conditions were next to a storm. I finished second beaten by a 7mm WSM or similar. I guess there must be some potential in the 6x47 Lapua because those left behind were certainly not beginners. I used 90 grains Scenar bullets and Vihtavuori N 150/37 grain loadings. In general I have used some hotter loadings but having to use new brass and new lot of powder made me slow down a bit just in case.
