6X47 Lapua

Am looking for some load data for 75 to 90 grain bullets with new 6.5x47 Lapua brass necked down to 6mm.

To be safe, start at or a hair below published loads for the 105/6/7 gn bullets.

Some where about 36-39+gns of R15 is where I would look for the lighter bullets.

Looking for an options for my switch barrel, 6x47 or 6-250. Any input. Case Availability from lapua for 6x47 would be a plus. I am using 6BR as the main caliber. I know bolt face is .473 for 6br, 6-250 how about the 6 x 47? Will it fit in a short action Rem 700? What are the performance differences in comparison to the 6BR, accuracy / velocity? or am I better off with 2 6BR barrels with different lengths & twists for light & heavy bullets? For my uses 75-90 grain bullets are perfect Thanks

I have found that my short throat 6x47mm Lapua behaves more like a 6-250AI than a standard 6-250. I easily got the 55s up to 4000 fps and the 70s to 3700 fps. The sweet spot so far for my rifle is 3900 fps for the 55s and 3650 fps for the 70s. I have tried only two powders so far, Varget and N540. N540 gave me large velocity spreads so now I am just using Varget. I used 40 gr. of Varget for the 70s and and a couple grains higher than that for the 55s for my sweet spots. If you try Varget work up to my loads in your rifle carefully. I used CCI 450 primers BTW. My barrel is a Lilja 3 groove 1-14", 27" long.

I have shot 60g, 68, 80g and 88g Berger, 65 & 68g Barts, 65 Vmax and 70 & 90g Nosler BT between I-4064, R15 and Varget in my 6x47 Lapua.
At point blank with the mentioned bullet weight shooting about 250fps faster than the BR, I will say the 6X47 Lapua is not nearly as accurate as the BR, not even close.
But if I slow it down to near the BR velocity, they then are closer. Then again, I’m burning more powder to accomplish what can be done in a BR. Have not shot pass 200, so I can’t say how they will do. My gun is a 26” Hart in 1-10” build on a Panda with 25X scope for the testing.

I am a live varmint shooter. I keep my shots to 500 yards and under. I had this barrel chambered so I could have a windy day cartridge with high terminal energy at the target out to 500 yards. This is why I am shooting the lighter 6mm bullets fast. I could get near 3800 fps with the 55 out of my old 6mmBR so the sweet spot for the 6x47 Lapua as a varmint cartridge will probably be the 70s.

My gunsmith used a zero freebore, 2 degree lead, .273" neck reamer from PTG.

Am using a Bartlein 5r 10 twist barrel in heavy varmint weight. Also want this 6mm for the same reasons you listed . And it sounds like we may be using the same gunsmith as your chamber/reamer specs sound the same.

Well Gents, I have a confession to make, I have come to a conclusion that my testimony in the previous posts about the 6x 47Lapua is premature and inconclusive.
The heavy snow in the Rockies kept most of me indoors for nearly 7 weeks, which provided the opportunity for me to get to know this new cartridge a little better, given that my feeling about this cartridge has changed forever.
Since the intended use for my rifle is mid range live varmint, I’ve narrowed my bullet selections down to 70, 80g Berger, 80g Nosler and 87g Vmax. As much as I've seen what took place inside of a hundred-yard tunnel, the 6x47L is proven to be every bid as accurate as the 6BR, only difference being the 6x47L is capable pushing these medium weight bullets to velocity reach that are unachievable by the BR.
The Powder of choice in my load work are N135, Varget, N140 and RL15. My best 4 5-shot avg was .252” produced by 80g Nosler and Varget that also yield an avg 3508 fps with very low ES& SD. One other combination worth mention is 70g Berger with N135 which was able perform above 3700fps with slight larger groups.
Looking at the results I have in front of me I’m convinced of two things. First, I am wrong about the potential of this cartridge in the beginning and the 2nd, not only was I wrong, I was dead wrong.
I can't speak for it's long range performance as I don't have the daylight or snowboots to get to the bench at the big range, but based on what I've so far it's looking very optimistic.

Raptor,

I used 37.3g of Varget, seated .020 in to the lands.
37.6 also showed very good groups but the ES & SD took a leap.

I shot several nice groups a couple weeks back with mine at 300 yards. The largest group was 0.92" for three shots. I love this cartridge and can't wait for live targets this spring. I am still shooting the 55s and 70s using Varget.

Glad to see it all work out for you Buzzbee.

Dale,

No, I have not tried the 75g Vmax.
However, I would not hesitate to try both Varget or N135 for the given bullet weight, my starting load for the 70g bullet is 36g of N135, I start seeing pressure signs at 38.4g.
I also worked with 36.3g of Varget and stopped at 38.1g, I stopped because I was not seeing better result as the N135.
