6x47 lapua vs. 243 ackley

Hello all,

Trying to decide on either the 6x47 lapua, or the 243 ackley. Primary use will be long range target and coyote. Plan on shooting bullets in the 105-107 grain range. Please feel free to add any positives or negatives of either cartridge.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

I've shot both .243 and 6XC, obviously similar to your cartridges-in-question. Both are great, velocity edge would be with the Ackley I believe - see cartridge info on home page. .243 Ack. info is on the .243 cartridge heading. 6XC info is applicable to 6x47 L.

i was in your shoes once. i say go for it either way. i went 6x47L cuz it can do everything the 243ai can with less powder and has a slightly better accuracy potential due to its case design. i really wanted the 243ai and had tons of brass, but i'm glad i went 6x47L and would do it again.

I love my 243 AI 's. I also own a 6x47L.

Both great rounds. Both shoot the high BC bullets well. Lapua is getting easier to find....

the thing i love about the 243 AI is if you ever go on a trip and forget ammo, you can still shoot factory 243 rounds with great accuracy and then have fire formed brass.

Great way to not ruin a hunting trip..,ask me how I know) LOL

sent ya a email too.

Scott

Out of interest what kind of velocity do you get with the 6x47's?

I have a .243ai which i get 3140 with both 100gr gamekings and 87gr vmax's

Thanks so much for the info so far. I really appreciate the knowlege found on this sight. A few more questions, what is the case capacity of the two cartridges in question, and are they similar in velocity when loaded to max. From what I understand the 6x47 is more efficient and can match the ackleys performance with less powder.

Tony.

I shoot the 105 in both rifles.

6x47 is 3157 fps at 4695 asl 40.7 grains H4350 7.5 Twist

243 AI is 3320 fps 45.5 grains H100V 7.75 Twist

I also shoot both cartridges.

6X47L=38.5 Gr's. H-4350, & 105's= 3050fps.
243AI=47.5 Gr's. H4831Sc, & 107SMK's= 3230fps.

I can get over 3100 fps with the 6X47 but accuracy diminishes.

Chuckhunter...

mine are both moly loads at a higher elevation. I have great accuracy still above 3100 with my 6x47. It is actually the best groups and lowest SD & ES I found.

what is your elevation there in PA ?

nice looking rig in your profile too !!

Sendero_man, I am also shooting Molly coated bullets. The elevation here is only about 900ft. The rig in the picture is the Ackley which has a nine twist Hart and the 6X47 has an 8 twist Rock Creek.

thanks for the info :)

send me a pic of your 6x47.

I think you'd be happy with either caliber !

or just build both like us.... LOL
