6x47 Lapua or 6mm Creedmoor

Hey guys, apologies if this has already been discussed. Looking at building a rifle for varmint / long range target shooting and have narrowed it down to these two.

Which is inherently more accurate and has the better barrel life? - I am assuming the 6x47 Lapua, However easier to get brass for 6mm Creedmoor here in NZ plus its a factory round, though I can order in Peterson 6x47 Lapua so I think barrel life and accuracy are far more important for me anyway.

Regards,

Michael.

Correct, creedmoor more horsepower and more brass options including large rifle primers if that is an issue with more barrel burning to go along with it, a creedmoor if you have to have 115’s going 3050 +

I am getting 3015 for 115 DTACs in my 6x47 Lapua. I also got 2500 rounds out of barrel 1. It wasn’t gone but didn’t trust it to make another season.

Wildcat,
I would say either one is a good choice but you have to ask yourself if you want to push the envelope or just run loads at about 3/4 pressure. The Lapua will most definitely hit 3080 comfortably and maybe faster depending on barrel speed and length, but the Creedmoor will do that with about the same powder charge but less pressure Due to more case capacity, with bullets jumping slightly. As far as which one is better for you, they’ll both do the trick, you have to decide for components and your reloading skills.

"Barrel Life" and Accuracy, hmm ???
IF, you know how to, Handload,.. I'd go, 6 XC using, Norma or, Peterson Brass ( they also make 6 XC Ammo now ) and Forster Dies !
The 6 XC has, a longer Neck to, "chase" the Lands and hold the Bullet, It's easier to Tune than, a 6 x 47 L and has much BETTER, Barrel Life than, the Creed !
There's lots of, GOOD reading about, this SUPER accurate, Varmint and Long Range Target round that, Feeds great in, a Short action. Read what, German Salazar ( estimated 2,500 rounds of, bbl Life ) and David Tubb, have to SAY about it and BOTH of, them ( amongst others ) have Won, a Ton of Trophies using it ! The 1-8 Twist, will shoot up to most, 108 grain, Bullets for Long Range, Target/ steel and the 70 gr. NBT's, 70 gr Sierra, Blitz, + the 80 gr. Sierra Varminters, should ALL shoot "good" / kill Varmints in, the 1-8 Tw if not, driven,.. crazy Hard !
Pay attention to, the Reamer used and Neck Dia as you'll probably WANT, a .276 - .278 Dia., NO Turn, Neck.
I'm building one myself for just, the very SAME, "uses" that, you're, wanting ! And, I've done, MY "homework" on this, ONE ! The other 2 Cartridges are, OK, though and everybody has,.. an Opinion !

I’ve been shooting a 6x47 for few years and have had good luck with a handful of barrels. Really easy to tune, brass from both Peterson & Lapua are excellent, and you can get the same velocity with less powder compared to the creedmoor. I wouldn’t consider a creed unless you *need* factory ammo.

Love all 3 of my 6x47's and all are 8 twist Krieger's and all three are just over 3000 with 115 DTAC from David Tubb. Extremely accurate .1's if I'm doing my part ! Less powder than Creed and more life in my opinion. I run both Lapua necked down and Peterson 6x47 brass. I won't be switching anytime soon. If I did , I agree with 6xc

6 Creedmoor, 6XC, and 6 x 47 Lapua are basically identical in performance, and there are a lot more brass options now than there were a few years ago.

I went with 6 Creedmoor because of the off-the-shelf, order it, ship it to my door, and go shoot nature of the support for it. However, if I was into varmint hunting, I would probably use 6BRA; especially since I can get brass for it, and it will last a long time.

I'm the exact same load and speed
Let's face it, the Creedoor and the Lapua are both copies of the XC but the companies had to change them a little to stamp their name on the brass. One a little smaller and one a little bigger.
