6-6.5x47 vs 6x47

Edit. Editor should say 6x47 lapua

What is the difference between the two if any?

What is the expected accurate barrel life?

I'm thinking about a 6mm for prs and looking to see if something can drive 115 dtacs above 2900 with barrel life above 2k.

There is no difference between 6-6.5x47 and 6x47. Since it is a wildcat and has no standardized SAMII name

And there are 3 6x47’s to confuse things

There is:

6x47 Lapua parent case 6.5x47 Lapua

6x47 Remington parent case 222 Remington

6x47 Competition Match a Swiss cartridge

I shot a 6x47 Improved. 115's and 110SMK's at the 3080 node. It went about 1800 rounds of F Class. I currently shoot a BRX with 110's. Both the BRX and Dasher will push 110's at 3000+/- with RL16 with the same BC as the DTAC's using 5gr less powder.

Thanks for the info. I am mostly interested in barrel life. this will be a prs build so although I Inwant superior accuracy I know all these calibers mentioned are more than capable.

Perhaps I am looking for something that is not there but I want a 6mm that I can shoot 115 in above 2900fps and have usable barrel life of more than 2000 rounds.

I would think that I could expect better barrel life shooting prs with basicly only 10 round strings in stead of 22 plus?

Myself and a few buddies are seeing right about that 2,000 mark. On my current one I am at 1500 still going strong. These are PRS rigs

I would hope so especially if you go for a lower node. We do abuse them pretty hard in F, lol. And you don't need quite as much accuracy so just in that regard a barrel will keep on going longer.

Is forming as easy as it seems? resize a 6.5x47 though a 6x47 die?

Very easy. Run them through a 6x47 die and load.

I trimmed my brass an well as neck turned it ever so slightly to clean it up but for most neck down situations like this it’s not needed.

In 5 barrels my average was 1700 rounds and this was milking it along by adding powder and chasing lands. Got 2400 rounds on one and 1500 on another, in one melonited barrel I got 2900.

In the one with 2400 rounds I used N160 for half of the life of it. The other barrels I used R17, H4350 and H4831sc.
