6x47 Lapua or 6BR

I am new to this site and I have decided to go with the 6BR, because I will only be shooting out to around 600 yards and at small ground squirrels. The Dies and Brass are much cheaper and easier to find right now. My friend has a 6BR he uses for varint hunting and it's an awesome shooting rifle. He uses the 105grn A-Max for his varminting and that bullet does a great job on those little vermin.

I would do a 14 tw 6BR. It will run 70gr 3600 to 3700f/s. That will kill any Varmint out to 600yds. If you want more than that do a 6MM AI 10 tw and shoot 87 Vmax. that wil get you to 1000yds.

How come everybody's 6mmBR is faster than mine :, :, :,

I need to pull the trigger harder :)

Do you think if you shot through it backwards your bullet would go -6000 fps? That would be cool wouldn't it.:D Just smart'n off.

I had the same problem and tried the trigger thing with limited success. Even had the 'smith change the trigger from 2 oz to 9 pounds. What I eventually found is putting the chronograph screens closer together can really get you a lot more velocity. I mean, who knew? You're not gonna' believe this but I have the printer tapes to prove it. I can get over 6000 fps with 87 V-Max out of a 6BR by moving the stop screen to where the proof screen used to be.:thumb:

There ya' go - I knew someone here would have the solution - next trip to the Range, 7,000fps with 65 V-Maxs ;)

What velocity is your 14 twist 30 inch barrel getting with the 70 gr bullets?
Lynn
Lynn...

I have a 24" and I tried 70's but didn't like them.

65s are running 3500 and 58s are running 3650 - loads are not max - they are for best group.

If your getting 3500 fps out of a 24 inch barrel with 65 grain bullets why is it deemed impossioble to get 3600 fps out of the 70 grain bullets in a 6 inch longer tube?
Lynn

It was said in jest - I read all the time about guys getting 3900+ fps with 55 and 58 bullets.

I don't think 3600 with a 70gr bullet out of a 30" tube is impossible.

Lynn, I've run the 70 gr. Nosler BTs at 3670 out of a .243 and it just don't seem like there's that much difference between the two cases,if you are comparing .243 to 6 X 47) as far as case capacity goes. I think it would be rather easy to do. Bill

OH OK I see said the blind man. Well, I was wondering there for min. You had me thinking for sure. You have to watch them boys. Sometimes they'll mess with your head. But, that just makes it a whole lot more fun. Bill
