6x47 L with 6.5 x 47 L bushing, FL die?

Thinking of doing a 6x47 Lapua. I already have a REDDING 6.5 x 47 Lapua bushing, FL die.
Can one form 6 x 47 L simply using a smaller neck bushing in the 6.5 x 47 FL or neck die?

I did some google fu but came up with very little...quicker to post the question.

FN in MT: Not sure what your results would be going from 6.5mm to 6mm, but a few years ago I tried necking down 6BR brass to 22BR brass, also using my Redding 6BR neck bushing FL sizer die, but with a 22 cal. bushing. The first piece of brass had the case neck squashed down like an accordian.

There is a flat area on the underside of the bushing that contacted the larger diameter 6mm case mouth, not letting the case mouth enter the 22 cal. bushing. I had to buy a conventional non bushing FL sizer die for the initial reduction. After the brass was sized to 22 cal. neck dia., then switched over to the 6BR bushing die with the 22 bushing.

Just my experience, beware of the possibility of that happening.

Just go buy a forster 6x47 FL die. One pass and done :)

Suggest this also.

The stock (no need to hone the neck) Forster FL die yields .0015 neck tension, works great for me.

Squirt some One Shot on the case, one pass and done. The non bushing FL sizer has worked perfect sizing down 500 cases sized, no problems, easy peasy.

FN in MT: A picture is worth a thousand words. Pictured case is a 6.5x47Lapua with the .290" outside neck diameter. Bushing is for 6mm at .269" I.D..

The reason the case neck and shoulder will be crushed down if trying to reduce the neck diameter with a too small bushing.

The non bushing FL 6x47L sizer die has the funnel like entrance diameter of the shoulder area of the die body. If not caring about wrinkled necks & shoulders, you could probably size a 308 case down to 6mm with one pass into the 6x47L die.

A 6x47L body bump die does a perfect job of taking the parent case down to where the neck sizer takes over.
I wish I hadn't wasted my money buying the Forster FL die.

With the exception of annealing, I process new brass exactly the same way as fired. I use the Forster FL. I have no issue with shooting a monthly match with these unfired brass. You might be pleasantly surprised if you try it.
As a matter of fact, I'm shooting the Mississippi State Championship with all new brass this weekend.
I'll tell ya how it turns out.

Maybe LOL

I use my 6BR bump die to neck down the 6.5x47L brass until it chambers. Thereafter correct bushing in my 6.5x47L full length bushing die.

Also a 6XC bump die should work to get them down to 6mm.

Seems like (and some practical experience backs it up) you will have issues trying to reduce neck size, in one pass, more than the neck wall thickness, and result in a nice, sharply defined shoulder to neck junction and not crush necks. 6.5 to 6mm is right on the borderline in between, might work better for those with bushing dies to split the difference and do it in two steps.

Regardless of mfg, bushings will be set up for a 'universal' chamfer angle on entry, closer to 20 degrees than a std wildcat 30, 35 or 40 degree and won't be conducive to large changes in neck diameter. A one piece die won't have that issue.

So which is cheaper, another bushing, or another die?

Chrome/Suberjc-

just rediscovered this thread.

You're welcome to buy the die BUT check where I live.
Freight could make it non-viable..
