6×45 thoughts

I am in the process of building a 6x45 bolt gun for walking around. Have an AR with an 18" McGowan, but want something where I'm not limited by mag length, and, I just want one.............

Savage SA FB (if you pronounce it suh-VAAAAGE, it sounds really elegant.........), Shilen stainless match, varmint contour, 21", threaded for suppressor, Rifle Basix trigger. Still working out twist (9? 10?), freebore for 68-88s, stock, scope, etc. Max range is prob around 300 yds and 150# deer is max target weight, but mostly for varmint critters.

Seems like a very all-around round.

I think 6x45 would be a great caliber. Unfortunately l cant find any published load data. 6x47 published data is available, but Remington no longer makes the brass:-(

I have a whole ton of load data for the 6x45 with bullet weights from 55gr to 100gr.
I've tried to copy n paste but that ain't working. I believe I got it off predator master forum. I could probably send it via email.

Window the front of a steel 10 round magazine I can and have loaded as long as 2.375" and run it with no hiccups in my ar.
Coal of this round is 2.332"20200308_083225.jpg
Edit: pictured is barts 80gr dominator
Swift brass, cci450, 26.7gr W748, running 2860 fps

I've had 2 6x45's, love them. Probably the easiest wildcat I've ever worked with. Super fun and highly recommended!

I am speaking of 6x45 loads posted in Bullet Mfg manuals. 0nes with proof tested loads. Ex-SAAMI specs.. Please show those..

Go in and read the fine print as to where the data came from, a couple different shooters, extrapolated data from hogden and a couple other sources, I've use this data to work up loads for 68,70,80gr bullets with no issues.
Have fun and be safe.

It’s a wildcat you just deal with it. Start low and work up, learn to read pressure. If that’s not your style maybe a wildcat cartridge isn’t for you.

You may be correct after all. I have certainly found some to have their own unique challenges.
Im still going to try this one though.
6x45 add some thump to 5.56 cartridge!
Tom

Still no 6x45 loads from the bullet makers. l tend to trust them first and MOST.
As stated above it's a wildcat.
Look at the data and bullets used, start low and work up.
These guys did a lot of work compiling the data.
They provided all data including firearm used with barrel length to boot.
I've loaded off this data using bullets not listed with excellent results.
A 68gr Bart's flying at 2950 is a beautiful thing...
Unless your a coyote!

That is 25 pages of good stuff. I'm going to print at work, save home paper and ink!
Are you shooting AR or bolt?
Barrel length and twist?
Powder choices?

AR15, 24" BHW barrel 3 groove polygonal rifling.
I load 2.375" to start with my windowed mag, magazine well is my limit for length.
All my loads are with swift 223 brass, this keeps my head stamp different than our 223's.
I started with a RCBS small base die set, they come in handy when you pick up a bunch of brass from the blasters at the range.
Also have a Redding FL die for subsequent loadings.
70 gr Nosler ballistic tip, 26.9gr IMR4895
Cci450 2.35" coal, 2950fps avg
70gr berger old school flat base
27.5gr W748, Cci450 2.2715, coal 2970 fps avg.
68gr Bart's original flat base, Cci450 ,
25.9gr benchmark, 2.340 coal, 2900fps avg.
Out of these 3 loads only the berger fell short at 550yards on 8" steel plate, the Barts
Beating out the nosler on hits.
My current and most favorite is
80gr Bart's dominator, 26.7gr W748,Cci450,
Coal 2.332" 2850fps avg.
I'll be getting more of these dominator's!!!
Also found good accuracy with N135 but velocity was down 100fps.

I've also used BLC2, H335, these are dirtier than I like.
Powders i want to try H322 & N133.
Bullets I want to try 68gr Barts dominator,
87gr Vmax
80gr Bart's 6x45 next to 55gr but 22320200308_230948.jpg I have found the data listed is good. My velocities just about mirror the ones listed.
