I have been looking at this caliber and was thinking about building one for coyotes. What is your experience with it and is it worth it over a 223 for under 300 yard shots. My plan was just a used 223 savage a d swap the barrel out. I have a 6mm creedmoor that works but with the 108 eld i use really messes them up. Was thinking about a slower twist to shoot the lighter bullets for less pelt damage

Mine is a 1-10 twist. Handles the 85-95 gr deer bullets fine and (on paper) the lighter ones as well. Haven’t had the chance to shoot a coyote with it yet but I’ll keep trying. The .223 case isn’t going to shoot the heavyweights very fast but if you’re only loading for Varmint’s you’re good to go. I needed a fairly quiet, but hard hitting round for the farm I hunt and this round is perfect for me. I’ve taken four deer with it, all one shot kills and in the case of my first buck a couple years ago, three does in the area just stood there looking at him lying on the ground. I used to use my 30-06 and one shot with it would send everything running.

Like you, my shots on this farm were almost always 100 yards or less. You would have no problem holding it to 300 with Varmint bullets.

Only had one one chance on a coyote while carrying it and it was this past year. He was big and came bouncing out of a wooded ravine at me but I let him go so as not to spook the deer. About 10 minutes later, I shot that buck.

I know my gunsmith does not have a reamer that size so i was thinking about a prefit chambered already. There are a few companies that do that caliber. I have a barrel from northland shooters supply on a remage and its a real shooter in 6br

The 6-223/6x45 and 6TCU perform way over its size. I have had all in a pistol and 18” carbine. Just built a rifle in 6TCU as I missed my carbine.

I love my 6x45 AR15 waaaaay more than my 223 AR15.
As stated above it pushes heavier bullets down range with a quickness.
I just finished tuning a load with 80gr Bart's.
I still need to do chronograph report for dope chart this week, should come in right around
2900fps.

I think im going to have to get ome ready for next fall for coyote season
If your building a bolt gun, you might think about doing an improved version for a lil extra horsepower.
