6X45 (223) Hunting Loads

My barrel will not stabilize anything over 75 grains. So, 90 grain Nosler BT's and Barnes Coppers are out. I have a very accurate load with 75 Gr Hornady flat base Hollow Points but it is listed as a Varmint bullet. I wrote Sierra and never got an answer. Anybody out there that has some experience with <75 grain bullets on deer sized game? I will limit my range to 200 yards. There used to be a Nosler 70 BT, was it a hunting bullet or varmint, the new ones are varmint bullets.

I have shot several deer with that particular Hornady bullet and never had an issue killing them. Granted, deer were 100-125 pounds, and most dropped in their tracks!

What powder are you using? I shoot 58gr vmax out of mine but wanted to try the 75vmax. I use w748. With two different charge weights i shot about 15 inch groups. I figured wrong twist rate. I tried N133. First charge i tried was a half inch group. I did not have much N133 so never tried any more. Maybe try another powder first?

Depending on the gun, I use H-322, H-335, Winchester 748 or H-4895.

I use the Remington 7 1/2 primer in all guns and loads.

Regardless of gun or bullet used, bullets are always seated .010 into the lands. This is where "I" always get my best accuracy.

All of my 6X45 rifles have a 1-14" twist rate.

All guns with their preferred loads run 1/2" average @ 200 yards.

I have had good luck with the Hornady 75 gr. V-Max on deer, but like I stated before, deer average around 100-125 pounds at most. If I did have a shit at a "big " deer, I would put the bullet behind the base of the ear to ensure a quick and instant kill with no chance of wounding an animal and risking it running off.

The 70 Nosler was a varmint bullet.

I would try the Sierra GameKing Bullets Jacketed Hollow Point #1530.
