6x44mm

Good summary. A little less powder capacity, a little less body taper, slightly longer neck. It does seem to be able to do everything the 6XC can do with 2 grains less powder.

But the downsize is the miserable task of case-forming, and the cost of custom dies. For most folks, the 6XC is a better alternative.

Joel Kendrick is probably getting better accuracy than anybody is getting from a 6XC--so far at least. But he works very hard on his case prep and he has a few secrets he asked me not to reveal.

The common thread to all these cartridges is H4350 powder. It really seems to work well with the heavier 6mm bullets.

How many serious BR guys are shooting 6XC?Rick

A lot! The 6 x 44 is just one of many mid sized 6mm cartridges being used by long range,600 and 1000 yard) shooters. The difference between the 6XC/6x44 cartridges and all the others is that the others are not being written up on web sites such as this. Many of them have been around for quite a few years and have won a lot of trophies. You just never hear about them. There is no magic formula to it. A case capacity of 45 to 50 grains H2O, little body taper and a minimum 30 degree shoulder angle. Combine that with good bullets, a good barrel, and, most important, a good shooter, and you have a winner. Now, if you'd like to hear about mine, the 240 Orphan, . . .
