6x204 for deer

I guess that I would put the recoil slightly less that a 243 shooting full power 100gr bullets. The shape of the stock, type of pad and suprisingly hearing protection will all affect perceived recoil. I would have a hard time telling the difference in recoil between equal rifles in 6x45, 6mm-204, 25-204, 250 Sav and .243 all shooting 90-100gr bullets..

I would let my skinny 9 year old daughter shoot my 6x45 and not think twice about it. The recoil pulse is just like a 223. It's just a pleasant cartridge to shoot.

I filled my second tag yesterday with the 6x45. Another complete pass through with shredded lungs again. 95 Partition again. I couldn't be more pleased with the performance.
A little garlic, olive oil and seasoned salt, on the BBQ med rare, Mm...

I'm on my 2nd 6x45 barrel on my M7, I use it to cull deer with and I'll be the first to tell you that a good bullet is to be used for quick recovery. Ice killed about 24 does with my 6x45, all being neck and head shots. Last year i poked a 200lb doe @ 85yds, through the lungs and she piled up 100yds away with little to no blood until 75yds into her run. I was using a 87grVMax @ 2800. So no more body shots for this guy unless i use a better bullet.

I've never had a problem killing our puny NC deer with the 6x45 no matter what bullet I used. I liked the chambering so much I built me a "good" one (Stiller, Krieger, McMillan, Jewel). For shots inside 100 yards you (or the intended target) will never see the 100fps "advantage" with the 204 or x47 case. FL size, load, shoot, drag & skin. Doesn't get any eaiser ;) .

Nice looking rifle, thats what my 6x204 is going to look like except a M7 action and a LT palma Kreiger. I just have to order the reamer so swd can twist it up. What barrel contour and length is it?

Might want to check with NC Wildlife but I think to deer hunt in NC you must use center fire larger than .224 ???

Thanks. It's a kreiger barrel in Rem Varmint contour. It's cut at 23" and gives just over 3100 fps with the Nosler 70gr BT in my current load with 10x. It wears a 4.5-14 LR Leopold with "flat" horizontal turret and a target vertical in Talley LWs that was to be milled out for the 8-40 screws.

I had an AR in 6x45 for years and really liked it. The bolt version is more of a good thing allowing the bullet to be loaded longer, out of the case capacity. My reamer had a 40 free bore and is perfect for the 65-75 gr bullets. Where, in my opinion the x45 shines. If i need more weight, bc, or energy; I have 6brs, varients, x47, 243s and such I can step up to... I will say i recently sold a 6AI after building this gun though.

NC is fine with 22 centerfire. Actually there are several jurisdictions that .22 centerfire is largest allowed. No problems there.

Beale,

Read it carefully. They removed the minimum caliber for rifles a while back. Pistols must be .24 or larger.

Maybe so but I haven't seen any thing about that, I was always told center fire over .224. Not trying to sound like an authority or any thing just didn't want to see any one get a ticket :)
