Good states for walk on, gun, deer hunting?

Thanks! I have never really thought of going east (I'm in Minnesota) and just might take you up on the invite. Is it rifle hunting?
Rifle, archery. Need to get on PA's Game Commission website & get license.
1 buck per year.
Doe tag is put into county treasurers office. Doesn't matter which county, though some treasurers are better than others. I live in Blair County, but send doe tags to Huntingdon County. I usually hunt in Elk & Cammeron counties.
And you can buy DMAP (deer management) doe tags, at any time depending upon availability for that area.
First week of rifle is reserved for buck only, unless you have a DMAP tag.

Do bear in mind, it is hunting, not harvesting. No guarantees!

While we do have some fairly big deer in PA, if your a trophy hunter, Michigan & Ohio are the states to go!

Lots and lots of public land here in PA. Hunting has really changed alot in this state in the last 20 yrs. Between the antler restrictions and every hunter feeling like they are only good enough to kill a 160 incher or better many have lost what it means to just go out and enjoy themselves and what nature has to offer.
I hunt the northwest corner of PA , Erie and Warren counties. This past years buck , my biggest ever. However i wont pass up any legal buck as ethical shots and available time to hunt seldom work in my favor. This was 2.5 miles from my truck.

I wonder, how many Coloradan's, KNOW THAT,..
the CANADIAN Wolves are being Transplanted,.. THERE,.. soon ???
Colorado, could HAVE,.. learned from, us !
Do People, EVER "know" or, learn anything from, PAST experiences ??
Probably,.. NOT !
The folks on the front range voted the wolves in, however........... not east of the continental divide. Funny how that works! The small number of folks on the west side voted it down....... except the up river yuppies in Aspen and Vail.

Your 88 certainly caught my attention, as I have had 3 0f them. 2 in .284 and one in .243. I also had a model 100 in .284 . They were the deadlies rifle I have ever owned, basically because with receiver sights mounted, If I closed my eyes and shouldered it and opened my eyes, I'd be looking right through the peep as thought it was built specifically for my body.
My go to powder was RE-11.

Maybe it's my monitor but I like to see the hunter's face in these situations! It's a celebration of a successful hunt and deserves to be seen. Great job!

The first half of my adult outdoor life I hunted and fished the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Licenses were always purchased from the hardware store the day we arrived in town. After visiting with the owner we visited the local grocery store to restock our supplies. Then on our way out of town we would stop at the best local watering hole to hear about any reasonable deer reports or fishing hotspots. We might even stay a little longer occasionally to get some of the best tavern food from their kitchen. Then off to the cabin.

This was always close woods hunting, usually in snow which muffles a lot of our movements. I can't remember any shots longer than about 125 yards which is why I often carried a T/C Contender in .30-30 Win. Lots of sightseeing in those woods so it was easy to find a nice comfortable spot to sit for a few minutes in order to see what happening around us. Not every year was successful during the deer season but usually more often than not.

Fishing was excellent since the cabin was on The Chain. Grouse hunting was and still is my favorite time of the year and hunting experience. The Chain straddled both Wisconsin and the UP so we had to have a fishing license for both States. Both obtained from that same hardware store.

Now of course, I apply for tags and wait for the idiots at G&F to fill in with the out-of-staters first and hopefully get drawn for something. Deer has slowed down to about once every 2 or 3 years and Elk is once in 7 to 10 years. Needless to say, I have moved on to hunting in states where tags are easier to get or where I know a rancher/farmer who will sell me a 'trespass fee' ticket for private land. All State rules still apply though. Times they are achangin'!

Thanks for the picture!:)

I took that pic with my cell phone timer set. I had to set the phone up un my pack which was on my hunt stool.
I love that 88 , 308w. Ive only owned it 5 years or so , first deer i shot at and took with it. The only other state i hunt is NY, i lived there for almost 13 years so previously bought my Lifetime License there. I live only about 8 miles from the ny border and hunt only about a mile inside the commie state.

I would hop over the river into Wisconsin. Lot of public land, lot of deer and if you haven’t bought a hunting license for the state in over 10 years, your license is half price, or at least it has been the last two years. A buddy from NE hunted with me two years ago and for $80 he got a rifle buck tag and two free doe permits. Southern WI has a lot of deer and a fair amount of public lands, northern half is a huge amount of public lands and fewer deer and very dependent on area. Wolves have knocked them down pretty hard in areas.

Missouri is otc and has quite a bit of public land. The COE operated lakes, ie Truman and Mark Twain, are primarily public hunting.
Archery 9/15-01/15, regular firearms in November, alternative weapon between Christmas and New Years and an antlerless only season.
You are allowed a total of 2 buck but only one with a firearm.

How far do you want to travel? Georgia out of state licenses are cheap, you can hunt WMA land, or find someone’s farm or hunting lease, and you can shoot 2 bucks and 12 does. Only one buck has an antler limit size. You can hunt over corn from a box blind or spot and stalk. You’ll also run into the occasional hog.
