6SLR Finished

Bighorn action,
Bartlein 7.5 twist, Whitley contour, 26"
Chambered by Jon Beanland

Took it to the range this week. Very happy with the results. Loaded 107smk's and Berger Hybrids, 43/43.5/44 4831sc, CCIBR2. Shooting at 100yds. The 44/107smk shot the best at 3053fps. Of the Berger loads, the 44 grain load produce the best group/lowest SD/3062fps. Will mess with the seating depth on the Hybrids see if they'll tighten up. Have some Dtacs coming. Once I nail down a couple loads at 100yds will take them to 600yds.

Reamer neck OD .274. Lightly turned the necks for a loaded .271, using a .269 bushing, Winchester brass. In order to get the FL sized new brass to chamber, got some wrinkling below the shoulder, smoothed right out after firing.

Once aging very happy with the results, can't wait to shoot a steel match with it!

Offgrid,

It seems like every time a guy chambers a 6SLR, it's the same damn story! It shoots good, low ES/SD's with good velocity. Broken record... ;D
Gotta love it! Nice stick by the way.

Very nice build with top notch parts. I hear super things about AJ,s actions. Are you going to coat the barreled action or leave it as it is. Nice picture and back ground, perfect for a post card.

Thanks. Going to leave it stainless.

Ya', AJ builds a great action, he's an excellent machinist and a darn good shooter to boot. He shoots one of the steel matches I shoot. This is my 2nd Bighorn action, the other a LA chambered in 284, it's a hammer. Beanland chambered it as well. My brother has a Bighorn single shot chambered in 6BR, he's in Iowa. We're having a shoot-off in June, 6SLR vs 6BR at 600yds, should be fun!

Took it to the range again yesterday, Going to give up on the Berger Hybrids, can't get them to shoot as well as the 107smk's in my rifle. Even with the Bergers in once fired brass vs the smk's in virgin brass. Moved the seating depth around, bumped the charge, 44.5 and 45. Look forward to giving the dtacs a go.

Do you know what reamer he used? I have one being built now with the SS reamer for DBM use. Also, how far off the lands are the 107's?

Jon ordered the reamer PT&G suggested .274 neck/.085 freebore. I thought it might be too short based on reading Robert's data, OAL/reamer FB/PT&G vs JGS with the same FB the PT&G will net a shorter OAL. Talked to Jon about, no big deal he said he would throat it to whatever I wanted. Sent him a dtac and a modified case, asked for a OAL of 2.860 to the lands, he added .035 to the FB.

107's, 2.862 to the lands, .010 jump.

Very nice rigs! Glad to see other people have also had positive results with the SLR. My f-class rig has about 400 thru it and although the 105 hybrids show some great potential I always lean on the 107's with 4350. Just don't have the time to explore the hybrids like I probably should. The 6SLR shoot-off with the BR...any wind and I know the answer to that one!!! Have fun! Eric in DL

Looks good bud. I love my 6slr. I am currently building a stock for it right now can't wait to get it finished so I can try it out. It is surely one of the most accurate rounds I've dealt with. My BRX is for sale because since I built the 6 super it has set in the safe. Plus I need an AR10 to but my night vision on for the dang hogs.
Congrats on the build.
Im running 105 bthp hornadys with hodgdon 4350 in mine and having amazing results.
