6slr brass options

That is one thing that I'm wanting to pick up soon. Probably going to get an annealeez
The Annealeez is great. Rotates the case during heat. Very adjustable. I "tweaked" mine. Just now I looked at the website, they have done very similar "tweaks".

The biggest cases I've annealed is the 338-378 which means it can do my CheyTac sized cases. This did take some alterations on my part. Making new rollers from Acetal (Delrin). It also mean adjusting the roller/exit gate.

I could imagine there is a few tweets to do to make the big brass work on there. Not sure the wheels straight from Jeff will do the chey tac, but a little sandpaper would open those up quick

Also give sako Brass a go, doesnt leave as big n dobut around the neck when you form them and you just need a small cut. With lapua brass I also found the trick to get them consistant is anealing, I run them through the machine 3 times while forming and sizing.

I bought a ton of R-P once fired test brass and sized it .010" too short and had to set the barrel back a touch to get it to headspace correctly. I will be trying it out this week with a big dose of H1000 and some 110 SMKs

I advise anyone with a new SLR to make 5 pieces of brass, shoot them with a moderate load, and set your dies from those. Size a few cases and do some load work, and then check your fired cases again.

It's pretty common to get the dies before you have the barrel back from the smith and start sizing to play with the new toys, I did it to, and fortunately I stopped at 5 or 6 cases, because I was in the same spot you are. Because this is a wildcat there really isn't any spec for the smith to go by.

I am not planning on sizing any brass until I have the chambered Barrel home that way I can get a nice snug fit

You may want to look into Starline 243 brass. I have a few pieces of it that I've formed into SLR, but haven't had a chance to run a bunch of firings through them yet.

Solid advice. I know better but jumped the gun assuming I would be ok since it was a Remage setup. I ended up making contact with the bolt face before I headspaced properly.

I shaved .020" off the back of the barrel and sunk the counter bore and equal amount and I am back in business.

Initial results look really good. 3180fps with H1000 and 110 SMK's at 48.5 grains. No apparent signs of pressure. Ill back them down to around 3125fps due to local Match rules, but I am impressed.

What is your COAL using the 110's?

How has that starline brass held up.

Finally got my slr all put together. Trying some nosler brass rite now

if u go back and re-read the origional article that Robert wrote on the SLR, he spoke a bit about brass.

His reamer specs were for a no turn neck with Winchester brass. Lapua being much thicker required neck turning. Remington brass seems to be similar to Winchester as far as neck thickness is concerned. No clue on Starline brass.

On shoulder setbacks, the advice on setting ur sizing die off of five fired cases is spot on. I would add that checking the sized case datum to base while sizing is a good idea.

Just because u set that die for .001/.0015 setback doesnt mean that is what u are getting on every case. The type of case lube and amount on the case will cause your shoulder setback to vary.
So it might be a good idea to check each sized case for the amount of setback until u get a feel for how much lube to use.

Haven't had any time to shoot, so it's currently still sitting on the shelf primed and ready to go.
I just picked up 50 pcs of the new Sig 243 brass to try. Have so far only shot 11 rounds out of this new slr build

I ran a piece of Starline through 6 firings last night. Slight doughnut appeared at 3rd firing and became much more noticeable at 5-6 firing.
