6PPC Questions--Me again

It really depends on many factors. Quality of action. Dimentions of the chamber, free bore. Bullet diameter, and overall diameter of a loaded round. Primers being used. Year of V133. Outdoor weather. A slow pour in a long drop tube will get at least 30.4 grains of powder with room for a bullet. If that's what the paper target likes.

Life kind of got in the way of my 6PPC journey last fall, but I'm ready to get back at it. I want to thank all the folks that have helped me and I've got a couple of more questions.
1. I've fired all the new brass that DJ formed for me with rather light loads (26.4 to 26.8 Gr. N133 and Barts 68 Dominators) and found a seating depth that seems to be working well. I'm just making land marks on a smoked bullet. Do you think this seating depth will hold up as I go up a bit in powder charge?

2. I've watched all of the Jack Neary videos on You Tube that I could find. Some of the charges of N133 he suggests seem downright scary (but hard to argue with the results). I'm not sure I could get in that much powder? So my question is how much N133 can I go and get say 10 firings on the primer pockets? Yes I want to shoot small, but no I can't afford to throw away brass after 3 firings.

Thanks in advance for your help. PM if you prefer.

Do you have a really good set of windflags and use them when shooting your PPC?

Are you planning to eventually shoot groups or score matches at the club level or to compete in NBRSA or IBS matches? Just curious. WD

No just sticks with surveyor ribbon. What would you suggest?

Haven’t got that far yet. Our little club just has reduced range high power matches

Sticks and surveyor tape are better than nothing, and Mike Ezell makes some really good windflags and poles. @gunsandgunsmithing is his handle on this board.

Just starting out with a PPC as you are I'd offer that you find a lower accuracy node than 30++grains and just do a lot of practice with wind flags. If you can get some Barts 68gr Avengers to try too would be a thought. Not that there is anything wrong with the Dominators you have, but I've found both have their strong suits.

Jack Neary IS really good at getting all a PPC has to offer, but most of all Jack knows when to pull the trigger and when not to due to his flag reading abilities. JMHO and JME. WD

Good advice. I really need to learn how to shoot. I’d love to go to a match to look and ask questions. Are there any group matches near me in Raleigh NC?

I looked on the NBRSA website and it looks like nothing close for group matches.

https://www.nbrsa.org/nbrsa-match-schedules/

Graham wind flags are great and the owner has provided me and many others with excellent service and good turnaround time. The flags are just about the right size, easy to see and read with the high vis colors.

Get in touch with @Mr.Spradlin. Four would be perfect for 100 yards, but you can get away with two although it is not an ideal setup. Setting up good flags every time out will show you in a hurry how much a small push will move your bullet. Flags are your friends.

One other thing if you want to try out some competition. UBR is a boatload of fun and your PPC would be perfect. There has to be UBR matches closer to you than group shoots.

Check out the website:

Look under the 2022 schedule to get an idea of where matches are held. The schedule is far from complete at this time, but a lot of ranges are listed there. Going to competitions is about the quickest way to get up to speed. There are a lot of helpful guys.

I shoot short range group competition and I’m usually at 29.5-30.2 of N133 in my Bat actions. You might want to start at around 29.0 and work up.

A properly matched FL die that sizes your cases the minimum with about .001-.0015” shoulder bump is a must. I can get 15-20 firings easily before my pockets get loose, at the loads mentioned above.

You do not need to use a long powder funnel like people are suggesting. I use one that’s 4” and just pour slowly while rotating the case.
