6mmBRX or 6 Dasher

I am an existing 6BR shooter
my purpose is mainly paper punching at 600 yards
I am looking for a re-barrel with something a bit more special and oomph

Considering either a BRX or Dasher

Anybody with hands on experience with both or either please let me know

if not at 600 shall I stay on with a new 6mmBR barrel ?

Good question...If 600yds is the longest you are going to shoot, a new 6br barrel would be the logical choice. If you are looking for more mph, I feel the BRX would be the logical choice. You can use your existing BR dies instead of investing in Dasher dies. I think you'll find the BRX and the dasher are basically the same other than the angle of the shoulder. You'll have to fireform either way you go. I have a BRX and love it. Barrel life is about the same as a BR and it shoots like a laser. I use it for both LR and MR comp. If you want to move up, I feel the BRX would be smoother, less costly transition.

THANKS for gravitating me towards a BRX a few questions if you don't mind

Do I have to start from NORMA cases or lapua is OK ?

Do you trim case length or literally just load a 6mmBR case and fireform

What neck tension do you find best accuracy ?

Have you tried 8208 XBR in it ?

londonhunter: Had a 6BRX chambering done recently and it has turned out well. Very satisfied with it & will not hesitate to do another. (1) Lapua brass, if for no other reason than the cost difference. (2) No trimming. Case's will shorten a little when fireforming. (3) .002" to .003" neck tension. (4) Have only used Varget & getting excellent results. I wanted to give it a try for the longer distances & it is fighting the downrange winds better than my 8 twist 6BR's, all with the 107 SMK. Velocity is averaging 2930 fps, about 150 fps faster than I could get with the BR, same bullet. They could probably be pushed a little faster, but I don't like to operate that close to the edge. Primer pockets can also open up sooner with maximum loads. Brass fireforms perfectly, first time with a normal charge of Varget, any 85 gr. or heavier flat base bullet ( for more bullet to neck contact), slightly smaller bushing, and a .010" jam. One box of 20 cases has been loaded 18 times & everything remains normal. Only possible downside I see is the shorter case neck, but I can live with it. Kind of like a 223 Rem. vs a 222 Rem. Am using my 6BR die set with a .100" shim spacer under the die lock rings, both sizing & seating. A 243 Win. small base die is kept, but so far, not needed.

I've been shooting the 6brx for a couple of seasons and love it. if I need to resize the bottom of the case I use a 243 body die [redding]. for normal use I use a forster fl 6br die it works the brass less than the hornady match bushing die that I started with. last year I let a friend shoot in a match withme and I brought a box of 6br by mistake so I was fireforming with out realizeing it. I shot a 197-9x which was better than the 2 scores that I shot with 6brx loads. I have not chronographed any loads but it really shootsd flat. only about 8-1/2 min from 200 yrd to 600yrd line. I just saw robert whitley was haveing a run of 6brx dies made by redding so I will have to get in line for a set of dies.

Darrell: We're close on our click-ups. With the 107 SMK & 33 grs. of Varget I use 7 1/2 m.o.a. from my 200 meter zero to 500 meters. Your 600 yd. difference from my 547 yd. would make up some of the additional click-ups.
