WHAT IS THE BEST LOAD DATA TO START OUT FOR A 1000YS LIGHT GUN I AM USING BERGER 105 MATCH BULLETS KREGGER 1-8 TWIST 30 IN BARREL NO TURN NECK . THANKS

I WAS WRONG ON THE TWIST AT FIRST

PROBLEM: With a 1:10" twist barrel I doubt you will be able to stabilize the 105gr bullets with a 6BR cartridge. You should have a 1:8.5" or faster twist for 1000 yards. Berger recommends a 1:8" twist for its 105s.

I've been real pleased with the 105 Berger VLD's, RL-15, and the Russian small rifle Mag primers at any distance I care to shoot.......

No, I'm using a 30 inch 1:8 twist. Maybe I read his message too fast, but mine is 30" 1:8 Krieger Heavy Palma taper. They stabilize great in mine and I have shot both the 105 and the 95 VLDs at 1000 yards with it.

My fast-track for 6BR 8-twist loads is:

Use 0.0015 to 0.002" neck tension with no-turn brass.

Start .015" into the lands, that means seating .015" longer than "just touching").

Start with 29.0 grains Varget, or Reloder 15, or Norma 203B. Work up in 0.3 grain intervals until you see pressure signs and excess case growth.

Then back off 0.2 grains.

Velocity target = 2885 to 2930 fps

If the gun's not shooting in the high twos and 3s in windless conditions, then fiddle with seating depth.

For primers, the CCIs, Federals, Russians all work well. When doing load dev, try to isolate just one variable at a time.

In reality, it will probably be pretty simple--something like 30.3-30.7 Varget or RL15 at 10-20 thousandths in the lands will be the ticket.

IN MY TEST I FOUND THAT THE VARGET 30.3 GRAINS WITH A CCI BR4 PRIMER WORKED THE BEST IN MY GUN WITH THE BERGER 105 BULLET .

THANKS FOR THE HELP !!

Stolle Panda, Kreiger 1-8" twist, 29" barrel, .269 neck, Laupa brass, CCI BR4 primer...Try the Berger 108BT's seated .015 - .020 into lands, backed with 30.7 grs Varget. Produces around 2950 fps, and the 108 cut my group sizes in half at 1000 yards as compared to the 105 VLD's....
