6mmbr for savage

I think as a general idea, you should always run new brass through a sizer to straighten out any bent necks at a minimum. Have I loaded them up straight out of the box.... yes I have with no issues. However, as a rule part of my brass prep is sizing even new ones. Luck, Tim

My Lapua brass was a bit tight in the neck. I opened the neck up using a full sized 0.243" expander ball, but did not size the neck down (took bushing out of die).

I usually load a dummy load or two to see what the neck diameter is and then turn if necessary as some of the older lots that I have are larger in the neck than I like. Also the neck tension can vary greatly and so can chambers. I have an XP-100 with a larger chamber than the 6BR rifle I have.
With both guns I jam hard in the lands to fireform and use a cheap bullet and 2015 powder. Lapua brass lasts so long when fireformed correctly and not overloaded that with a little effort it is far cheaper in the long run than anything else.

Check flash-holes for obstructions.
Check necks for burrs and cuts.
Trim anything that's potentially oversize for your chamber (highly unlikely)

Run expander mandrel down necks to make necks round and reduce neck tension.

Lightly chamfer inside necks (don't overdo it!), and deburr outside. (Just bare minimum as you'll end up doing this again after trimming).

I generally trim AFTER first or sometimes second firing. You'll find that, after first firing, the brass will be different lengths so it's kind of a waste of time to trim before first firing unless you're using the brass in a match.

BTW, I've gotten some of my best groups with brand new Lapua brass, not trimmed to length, and barely chamfered. A lot of people chamfer too much.
