Another thing to consider is that club match rules are prone to change. I have a Savage that is now something of a safe queen. I built it to the club rules of the time that required factory actions, stocks, etc. By the time the next season rolled around, my full-race custom was legal and the Savage was redundant.
This happen to me also. I had build a Rem700 in 300 RSAUM for shooting silhouette and the club changed the rules to no magnums, just a day after my g-smith called me to tell me it was done. >:(

Silver Sled: Some clubs are being forced to ban the big boomers (Ultra magnums) simply because the silhouettes are being destroyed. They are a high cost item to maintain/replace as it is with "normal" cartridges, with the heavies the cost becomes prohibative.

"8 twist Hart Kreiger Broughten Shilen. Any top barrel makers are good . Call them and they will set you up with contour and lengths that you may need. I like my 8 twist hart shoots great."

Ditto .............. 8)

Barrel conture for 6 mmbr

After months of consideration,I decided I am gonna for for it
and make me a 6mmbr.....What do you think would be the best
barrel conture...1 in 8 twist 26 inch...
My use will no doubt be shooting 300 or less is all and the match
here is 20 plus sighters within 30 minutes.

And also will a chrommoly barrel be ok for a starter barrel? Thanks

for 300m or less then I'd go with 13.5 or 14 twist and 68gr bullets, they out shoot the heavier bullets up to 300m easily, and barrel life is much longer with 68gr than with 105gr.

my BR has almost 4000 rounds through it and shoots .25 moa at 200 and 300m

chrome moly barrel costs the same as stainless steel barrel and are not better so why not go with a good Krieger Match barrel ?

and barrel contour should without a doubt be #17 Heavy Varmint Contour.

chamber 6mm BR Norma, just choose the correct freespace according to the bullets you will use.

he is in Africa right now--not sure when he is getting back home..

In our 300 yard winter varmint league, the top shooters are shooting a 10 twist 6BR and medium weight bullets.

If you guys have unstable wind conditions, do not, DO NOT, go with a 14 twist and the light bullets even at 300. In summer, with lighter, more consistent winds and maybe using wind flags, sure. But without flags and with switchy winds typical in the eastern US, you'll be sore and sorry.

At 300, you could also stick with the 8 twist/heavy bullet format and end up with a gun that you could shoot in other formats and that you could sell if you needed.

OK I appreciate all you kind replies...Found a barrel with .800 at the muzzel...Any thoughts on this? Like too small or whatever....26 inch 1 in 8 twist....Thanks

Open question as to max "perfect condition" accuracy at 300m (328 yards).

"they out shoot the heavier bullets up to 300m easily"

Disagree. We've seen good 6mmBRs Dashers shoot the 105s into the ONEs at 100 yards pretty consistently in still conditions. When the wind is blowing, the reduced drift from the longer bullet is even more telling. In the 300m position shooting discipline, short FB bullets are not favored by any leading shooter or team.

In the groundhog shoots with high weight limits and unlimited cartridge choices, sometimes short FB bullets win at 300 or 400 yards, but they are far from dominant, and I think most guys are heavier bullets in 10-twist or even 8-twist set-ups for that distance.

FWIW, an 8.5 or 8 twist will shoot the 68-80 grainers with great accuracy.
