6mmbr for all around target competition

After doing a lot of research, it looks like the 6mmbr is probably the best all around target/varment round for say 100 yards through 600 yards and maybe even longer.

Right now I own a decent 22-250 and will probably rechamber it to 6mm br soon. Later if I am shooting very tight and if I get the urge to shoot past 600 yards I might set up a 6.5-284 or a 7mm wsm.

As I understand it the 308 is the 100 and 200 yard king, but I am interested in only shooting one caliber for 100 - 600 yards to keep it simple. I like the idea of low recoil, high bc, decent barrel life and very good accuracy.

The question is, with the 6mmbr, and shooting distances of around 600 yards I assume you would want to shoot something like the 105 bergers, but it takes these heavier bullets longer to stabilize for short range stuff.

About what weight bullets would you want to use for 100 and 200 yard competitions in a 6mmbr.

The 308 isn't the king of anything...more like a jack-of-all-trades.

over 300: 95-107

under 300: 65-80

Though I use the heavies for everything, cause they still shoot bugholes at 100yds...

Don't think we'd say the 6mmBR is "the best" from 100-600 in absolutes. Joel Kendrick won 600-yard shooter of the year shooting a mid-sized case base on the 6-6.5x47. A 6.5-284 can be very, very competitive at 600 yards.

But if you look at the track record, a 6BR is next best to the PPC variants at 100 yards, the 6BR remains "the king" in 300m competition, 6BRs and 6BR improveds are pretty dominant in 400-500m varmint competition, and 6BRs and 6BR improveds are still the "cartridge to beat" at 600.

As far as the stabilization issue goes, I think the notion that 100gr+ class bullets need 200-300 yards to "go to sleep" is a misinformed myth. As Gale McMillan used to say, he's never seen a bullet fly its way back into a bad group if its not performing at 100-200. In a good rifle, with a top-quality barrel the 105s-107s can shoot in the ones at 100, though mid-twos is probably more realistic.

This brings a,beginner) question I would like to know the answer...

As an example, if a 6mmBR rifle with a 1-8 twist shoots an agg. of .300 with a 105 or 107gr. bullet. What kind of accuracy it may shoot with the lighter bullets?

Is there any significant accuracy decrease in using lighter bullets for the twist? I know that the opposite will not work, using heavier bullets for the twist).
