6mmBR-DX action

Am building a 6mmBR-DX single shot bolt action rifle. Barrel is a Bartlein 28" Bull with gain twist for 95 grain bullets.
Given the case is so short, a short throw action seems called far. But the barrel is so long and heavy, a stout action with a longer tenon seems called far. I've not seen bench rest actions, 'cept in 'pitchers, as I just shoot long range target on my farm (mostly from a bench). So I'm looking for some guidance. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I have a 30" Heavy Palma with a muzzlebrake on a Hall action. It supports the barrel fine. There are alot of big stout actions out there that will serve your purpose. I seen a big Bat this morning here for sale at a good price.

A Bat SV or Borden will be an excellent platform to build on. I have experience with both and either one will be great. I've also heard good things about the Pierce actions.

I'm building a 6mmBr-DX also on a Borden tube gun action with and Eliseo chassis and Bartlien 5R barrel. I hope to have mine completed in about 4 to 6 weeks. Everyone that has the DX seems to really like it so that is why I'm trying one.

I don't think that you can go wrong with any of today's custom actions for your build.

Good luck!

Which 95? I like the BIB 95 FB in a 10 twist. Mine is .104 freebore.

With that bull barrel, etc, though, you'd probably be most versatile with an 8 twist with enough freebore to shoot the 104-108gr heavies. Mine is .115 FB.

Have fun with it!

Hey, fellas, I really appreciate the suggestions and are going to take a look at them all. Have a 32" 8-twist Krieger 6XC on a Ruger No. 3 with a nice 8.5-24 Leupold, so this present is something to shoot the lighter stuff at a shorter range. With a bit wider selection of bullet weights; I'm looking for some variety. Something for the grandkids to shoot a little easier. That why I didn't opt for the Astonishing Dasher. Unbelievable cartridge! If I had been a bit better on the beam a few year ago, the Dasher may have turned my head. My 6XC Krieger is the most accurate long range rifle I've fired. So far . . .

By the way Frank at Bartlien was extremely helpful and very prompt in assisting me after I talked to him on the phone. Really went out of his way. Told what I was after and asked him to make the decision for me on the twist. I would have never figured that out on my own. The best I've run across so far. And that is saying alot. He is very realistic and know the limitations of his product. Thought all those type folks were extinct. Almost feel guilty taking up so much of his time. But if I buy another barrel, it will probably be another Bartlein.

Promptly taking care of customer sure engenders a lot of loyalty. Maybe the shooting sports are a cut above. It is a crazy time for all the suppliers. So, I was even more impressed. Again thanks for all the info, fellas. Any further suggestions would be more than welcome. Glad to be here with all you. I'm learning (and laughing) alot.

10 twist and 104 freebore is perfect for the 95 BIB. OTOH, that keeps you from shooting the 104-108 boat tails. But that bullet is a laser.

One of the slickest actions and not terribly expensive is the Pierce Engineering Action. They have one developed for "small benchrest style" cartridges.. It is a Remington clone and will fit into any stock previously bedded for a Rem.. It is strong, smooth as silk and tolernaces in it lock up like a bank vault door.. You can use Jewell or Kelbly triggers..

Just mentioning the 10 twist/95 because the OP said he had a 6XC and the new project was for lighter bullets at shorter range. Hard to beat that 95 BIB at 300 yards.
