6mmBR Barrel Twist

Will be building a bench rest rifle in above caliber, most of my shooting will be at only 100 yards, maybe 200 yards sometimes. Kreiger or Lijia barrel, Remington 40X action, Tonney stock, this will be for enjoyment not competition with rules. just want the most accurate rifle I can build. i have read about twists from 1 in 8 to 1 in 14. will be shooting 60 to 90 grain bullets, heard about an 80 Berger. could use some help on what twist rate to go for. i am new at this game so go easy on me.
Thank you for your assistance.

For 100/200 yards with only self gratitication the issue,
I'd get a 1-14 twist using any of the benchrest bullets around 68 grains and have fun.

And don't forget a set of wind flags.

Using custom made BR bullets would be worthwhile and most of these are available in 67 or 68 gr. Some makers make 80's but they don't seem to be as readily available as the 67/68's. Berger makes a good bullet and I used them for most of our group matches this past season but you owe it to yourself to try some Barts, Bibs, Brady Knights, Cheeks, etc etc.

I have a 1-14 and the range is about 55 gr. to 75 gr. maybe 80.
87 grain Vmax keyholed. If you want to go up to 90's you will need a faster twist. I use 65 Vmax most of the time.

Forget about bullets over 68 grains. A 14 twist and a CUSTOM made benchrest bullet is what you want. It's not until you get WAY past 200 yards that the heavier bullets have any advantage on the light ones.

Thank you!
it seems like i have read 1 in 14 for bullets under 80 grains.
is there an optimum twist rate for the 6mmBR?
reaching out to 600 yards, i see with bullets over 100 grains the 1 in 8 twist is popular for this distance to stabilize the bullet.
as you can tell i am new at this game, and appreciate whatever help i can get.

Not for competition, just enjoyment. Why not the 6BR? What would you shoot for accuracy?
Lets say at 100 to 200 yards, not much room here in the East, I know move, can't too old.
thank you.

As gunamonth says the 6ppc is mor accurate at 100-300yds. The 6BR is a very accurate cartridge, but leaves a little on the table. For longer yardages with heavier bullets the 6BR starts to take over.
They ain't no one cartridge that does it all.

I thought about the 6PPC, but I did not want the job .of case forming ect.
So I decided on the 6mmBR, I know there is no magic twist, but there are those that have had success with slow and fast rates, I know what this cartridge will do, at 600 yards, I just don't have 600 yards to shoot in this neck of the woods. Best I can do is 100/200 yards. If the rifle will do .500 I'll be very happy.
This will be a touch and go, rifle so to speak.
Thanks for all your help.
