6mm X 45 Short barrel experience

I am strongly considering a 12" barrel in this caliber for suppressed coyote shooting here in NV. Reason in part for the choice is 4,500 bullets on hand in 62 to 70 grain weight. If anyone has gone down this road previously I would appreciate hearing about your experience. Specifically what twist and what velocity's were achieved in what barrel lengths. Thanks in advance.

You can't get that gr bullet subsonic .
A barrel that short is going to be very powder sensitivity to stop muzzle flash .
I would start longer and it give you a option to shorten it . Good luck looks like a good choice. Larry

I have a Savage with a Shilen stainless steel 12 twist 26" barrel that shoots Sierra 70gr HP @ 2900fps at <.5moa @ 200 yards...great varmint cartridge

Thanks I am not looking to go sub sonic with this setup, just attenuate the muzzle blast.

I would hope to get velocity's that are not too far from that with 62/68 grain bullets. But your barrel length makes me question the possibility.

308sako, I use Lake City and/or range brass with 25.0gr of H322 and CCI 450, the load is straight out off Hodgdon load data. My barrel has 0.100" of freebore so I can get a pinch more powder in the case with bullets seated 0.020" off the lands.

308sako, I have read in the past of guys using 6mm 13.5 twist barrel to shoot 80gr bullets...this is why I decided to go with the 70gr bullets in the 12 twist

My old 16" 1:12 6x45 threw 60gr Sierra HPs @ 2985 fps. Sweet little coyote killer...

Quickoad says you'll lose ~230fps for dropping from 16" to a 12" barrel, using my load data for the 60 HP...

What powder did you use? I am building a 6 TCU rifle.

Finally received the barrel and have begun load work up. So far I am very pleased with this Columbia River ARms barrel. Mostly I seem to be having issues with the standard deviations being extremely high, but hope that neck tension and a faster powder will alleviate that issue.

Mine has a 20” 14tw and uses n133 or 322 well with 65-68gr match bullets left over. Lots of first deer have been got with that rig.
