6mm VLD Hunting max speeds ???

What is not rational Mikecr?

It is all Factual.

I could be wrong but I am quite certain it was F class shooters that were separating VLD bullets..shooting 10 and 20 shot strings on hot days super heated the bullets to the point where they came apart..That is when berger found the solution to the problem was to thicken the jacket..hence the Hunting or original VLD and the Target VLD.

I can push the 105 VLD out of my little 6XC at 3,200 FPS (silght bolt lift) I backed it off 1/2 grain to 3,150 to (3,180 FPS at 90 deg F). There is a article where they had pushed a 107 SMK to 3,310 FPS from a 6XC..So believe these boys were pushing them at 3,450 FPS screamers as they put it.

It takes a mountain of irrational actions to blow up the original VLDs.
Do you think anything about a 6x284 represents good judgement? I don't,, I see it as irrational.

And I seriously doubt the competitive, which is more than showing up and shooting beyond accurate barrel life, get there at a ridiculous point of original VLD destruction.

So when the dark murmuring went on about Berger bullet issues, it appeared about as credible as needing to be jammed to shoot.
Yes, folks were blowing them up. No it was never a 'problem'.
There just never was a real issue there.

I wonder if we can ask this question to Bryan Litz ? as to why they made the jackets thicker on the target VLD..
I know berger states on their web site it was do to heat..from fireing many shots in a row..target shooting.

AS for the 6/284 it's been around for a long time. At one point in time it held the 1000 yard group world record..
They are hard on barrels...as any case with similar case capacity in 6mm bore would be.

I used to try running the heaviest bullet I could around 2950-3000 fps for hunting.. I think for the OP, to get a cross hair with some hold over lines and maybe windage and a good range finder would serve him well.. If you don't have time to range it, You probably are rushing it at those ranges.

I salute Berger's efforts to turn it all around. It paid off big for them.
It's just my contention that there was never an actual issue with original VLDs, and Berger could have easily proved this had they chosen so.
They could have fired 200 in a row with my 6XC without issue. It would have killed my barrel, but not their bullets.

mikecr,
Thank you for the kind words Mike. For most shooters it wasn't an issue. However we did test and found that it was an issue that needed addressed so shooters would have complete confidence in our bullets. There are enough things to think about during a match. We wanted to make sure our bullets were not in the mix ..ever.
