6mm TCU

Just got mine done a week ago. Still tinkering with a few things but nothing major. Fire forming loads using WW and LC18 virgin brass are both doing sub MOA. Plenty good for prairie dogs in another month or so.

I went with a 1-8,LV contour Wilson blank from ragged hole. Cleans easy has not shown a hint of any copper fouling. Short throated with intent of 55-70 grain bullets till wear allows heavier.

My favorite budget varmint 6mm 70g are the Speer 70TNT and Nosler 70g varmageddon. 70TNT can be found in the 10 cents per price range, they are surprisingly accurate for the price and good terminal performance. I'm cheap, so the days of throwing 30 cent plus bullets at PD's is long gone for me.

Its going to take awhile to get any appreciable throat wear, this round isn't hard on barrels at all.

I went with your recommendation on the Benchmark load for fire forming.
The whole rig came around very nice.
I plan to visit H335 as I had excellent luck with it before.
8208 is another I want to give a try, it was introduced after my first 6TCU.
Also have a good supply of the old data 2200 powder. This the last 8lb jug I have, took me a while to shoot the first 24 poounds of the 32 I bought.
Trying to decide on what to fool with next. I am inclined to go with a 20 something. Have a pile of BR brass along with a good bunch of 204 brass. Yet I am a fan of the virgin LC brass and have thoughts of a 20 practical excellent stuff for the price.

H335/WC844 works quite well for most.

2200 works REALLY well for light bullets. 3600-3700FPS, a 6mm 58vmax and an 8 twist impress me.

I find 8208XBR and Benchmark very, very close to each other in 223 case based stuff.

Well after to long on the back burner, I have this one up and ready to go. Had extractor issues, all fixed now works fantastic.

Ran a few more of the fire forming loads through it just to knock the cob webs out, still shooting boringly well.

Have some Nosler 55’s to try. I would jump right back to H335, but folks have me rattled I may see heat issues with it. I never have before, but I don’t set my ammo in sun, nor do I chamber a round and let it cook while looking for another target.
Worked with the 17Remington, 25 grain vmax and a ladder with CFE223, gave some out standing speed and good accuracy.

I would like to try some CFE223 in the 6TCU, yet once again folks are saying it gets spikey with heat.

Any up dates I am all ears gents.
Jeff

All,
I'm thinking about chambering a 22" 8 to 1 6mm barrel to 6x45 for long range shooting.
Max distance is 1250 yards. With my 6x55 it liked the Sierra 107 or the Bergers 105 the best.
The game we play a spotter is not allowed, so a lower recoiling gun is a big advantage.
With the above bullets what sort of velocity should I expect?

You are asking a lot out of a 223 case with a 105gr bullet. You should consider going with an AI chambering to increase case capacity to push the heavier bullet. The easiest way is to select the 6TCU with dies and reamer standardized.

Have you heard about the new 6ARC which has the size & capacity to meet you goal. It might be worth considering unless you have a project gun that can't handle a larger case head.

Two year bump.
Anyone fooled with CFE223 in this yet?
Be a month or two before I fool with it.
