6MM Tac 40°

Re: 6MM Tac

I didn`t see much interest so I pulled it. I am in the early stages of load work, and its looking real promising. I also saw a very small group shot by the F-Class shooter during his load workups that was a screamer, < 1"
I`ll be shooting it Sunday at our club match, 600 for score at MSSA Memphis, grab your guns and come shoot, see it in person!!

Re: 6MM Tac

I was watching your post with intrestest and hoping for a follow up report.
I live a little far away and I'm still waiting for my Dasher reamer.

I you get a change post some of your results after you match.

Good Luck

Hal

Re: 6MM Tac

I`ll be shooting brass that won`t show top end results, but will let you know how it goes. I tried Berger 108`s and Hybrids, and its the first time I have had luck with Hybrids. Every shot at 100 was cutting each other, and after tweeking a bit shot a 3 shot .121". Thats what I`ll be using Sunday. Later!

Re: 6MM Tac

I just recieved an e-mail from the F-Class shooter I chambered the first TAC 40 for, he went to Louisianna and shot clean, and tied the national record at 600 with a 200 score and 18 X count!

That's awesome Tim, I completely missed the first thread I guess, could you tell me a little about it, what case you start with exetra?

Re: 6MM Tac

I been messing with wildcats for years, mostly hunting calibers. I decided to try my hand at something different for shootin paper. Cabin fever had a lot to do with it too, but I wanted a little more neck on a Dasher case, and Dave Kiff was nice enough to help with he tough part helping me with my design. Its only a bit different than a Dasher, but thats OK as thats the best of the best for my money for 600 yds. I ended up with my initials being T.A.C. and since it uses the same shoulder it was dubbed 6mm TAC 40, the neck is a mere .028" longer. Most will say not worth messing with, and I hold no quarrels with that, but it at least is a new case for me to mess with, in my old age! It also appears to shoot pretty well.

Oh yes of course you told me about it last year, you were helping me with my 6brx, might have even been the year before that, and you sent me your reamer print with the longer freebore and I used it now for over a year,...love it, anyway you were telling me your thoughts then, was it with the Tac that you shot the really small 600 yard group with or was that the 6brx? can't remember, at anyrate keep us informed about your wildcat Tim, I just had a 6brdx chambered and it is real close to your wildcat, I can't wait to get shooting it.

Re: 6MM Tac

Last year was the BRTC and a .050" long BR with 30* shoulder. This one is different. I have a Henriksen BRDX tool ordered and am looking forward to its arrival. Its all fun!!

My smallest .8xx" 600 yd was with a 6 Dasher followed by a .981" with the BRX and reamer print I gave you, Tim

That is awesome Tim,.something to be real proud of for sure, I am embarrassed to tell you my best 1000 yard group with your ream, because it is huge compared to your groups but I got a 5.1" 10 shot group with it at 1000 yards this year and last year I got a low 6" 10 shot 100X with it so been very happy with it as those are my bests so far, working toward the 4" 100 hopefully this next weekend.thanks again Tim.

Re: 6MM Tac

I have Missoula on my bucket list as there are a bunch of awesome folks up there for sure. I`d love to join in some day. I keep buying lottery tickets!! ;)

Re: 6MM Tac

You have me beat for 1000 as I have attended 2 matches at 1000 and my smallest is a 5.3" for Lt class and 5 shots!

Re: 6MM Tac

Tim

Congratulations on your latest creation.

Looks like its a winner.

Have you run any velocity test yet?

Hal

Re: 6MM Tac

I have asked a shooting buddy to bring his chrono tomorrow to our match. I am thinking I am near 3100 fps, as my come ups are right at 10 MOA for 600 yds. I am using a very healthy dose of Varget, but no signs of pressure.

Tim,
My rifle weighed 15.8 lbs I raised that to 16.8 this week so I am hoping it tracks better, people like you, Tom, Boyd Allen, Jim, Donovan, My Gunsmith and shooting partner Paul G. and others have been a huge help to me and I hope to get into the 4" crowd before summers end and a couple more 100's. I worked hard for it but I have had a lot of great help on the way, I am far from world class but I am having a ball rubbing elbows with guys that are. I sure hope you make it to Montana one day soon, the August shoot is great, it's hot but not as hot as some places and there are a lot of top shooter there from accross the country, Richards Shatzs, Don Neilson, Leo Anderson, Tom Mousel, the Hoppe brothers and others, would love to have you on the line.
Wayne.

Looks like they are right on par with Dasher speeds. I tried shooting Hybrids Sunday, I am still eluded by how to figure them out. I did have a friend loan a chronograph, and my load was running 3049 fps

Re: 6MM Tac

F-Class National record on first outing with the TAC 40.

Not bad for a part-time wildcatter.

We want to know what's next?

Congrats!!!

Re: 6MM Tac

Thanks birdog, I am proud Brian shot so well with the new case!

For me persoanlly, I`m dropping the Hybrid for now as IBS looms so near, and last night pointed up 400 or so Berger 105 VLD`s to shoot through this Brux TAC 40.
