6mm Super LR question

Hi,
Whats the optimal barrel length for 6mm Super LR? Im wanting to have built a mag fed .243 SLR.
Components I have in mind are.
Stiller Tac 30 action
McMillan A3 stock
Krieger barrel 1:7.8" twist
Seekins Precision DBM
Wanting to shoot the 115 Dtacs .
According to Glen Seekins if I can stay under 2.9” range With the 115 Dtacs. I can use Accuracy International AW magazine which is a double stack, 10rd in the same length as a single stack 5.
Thanks for any input.

It will come down to how practical you want the rifle to be! If a BR rifle I would say 28-30" barrel, but since a varminter I suggest shorter for easy ot mobility and weight!

I am currently researching on getting a 6SLR going, and I will be going for 26" barrel but I plan on 105/107 range.

Mag legnth will be no problem. Guys a shooting the 115DTAC from 243 in AI mags no problem, and you actually end up with a slight increase in usable seating depth due to the 20 degree to 30 degree shoulder increasing neck length.

For me right now its working out my die choices. With a few 6mm using a 30 degree shoulder, few chocies there.

I hope you dotn mind me jumping on your thread, but dont think it warrants its own thread since you have started this one. May even help you too.

What dies are you guys using for the 6mmSLR?

Im thinking
Forster 6XC BR seater
Redding Type S 6mmBR neck die
redding Type S 6mmSLR Fl bushing die.

Seems a pretty cost effective solution to the dies!

Cheers

I know that Robert has the dies for the 6slr if you don't already have the ones you have listed.

AckleyImproved,
As for dies. Ill go with the ones from Robert. Thinking about spending some money on a 28" ABS Carbon Fiber wrapped barrel from Jense Precision custom rifles. I'm not concerned about mobility as much as optimal barrel length and weight...

An Eliseo RTS Tube gun will also run 2.9" AI mags. Single stack though.

A 6SLR will use all the barrel you give it. I would go 26" or better.

I would do a 1:7.5 barrel for 115's it's the accepted twist for that bullet. Unless you are going to shoot a lot of 1,000yds, I would stick to 105-108's.

Just my $0.02

Lakesnake,

If you're looking at the ABS barrel, i'd say it would be a wise choice. I've got a coworker that has 2 of them. Barrel wear is great on his 300wsm and 260 Rem. I also know a few other guys that are running them and they have nothing but good to say about them. If i remember right they use a Rock barrel and turn it down and put the carbon fiber skin on it. They're cool looking if nothing else.

I'm currently in the process of putting one together also, but i'm going to be running it at 24" with a suppressor so length is my enemy in a hunting gun. I'd love to pick up an ABS barrel but the cost would be my only issue, i can buy 2 barrels for the price of one. they would be nice for shaving off some extra weight.

I guess barrel weight is out of the question. Got a Bartlein stainless barrel M24/M40 contour, 6mm, 1:7.5" twist, 5R rifled, .236" x .243" bore and will finish at 28" on the way.

you're right, that's going to weigh a little bit. I hope you're shooting stationary, because toting that thing around will put some hair on your chest. I have one in MTU, pretty close in weight and it's 18 lbs loaded.
