6mm super l/r advice

Thinking about building one of these . And seeking advice from anyone that has, regarding how well it wil work in a s/a bat rv repeating action with A.I magazine.
Wanting to shoot 87gr to 105 vld bullets and after reading the reamer specs it look like the l/r s ( 275 neck 075 free bore is the one based on the authors notes on his AOL )
Just dont want to end up with a single shot because they end up to long to put in the magazine chasing the lands like the vlds like.
Also considering a 6 creedmore, 6x47, and a 6xc.
Making a fun light hunting gun for coyotes-deer. And maybe play around banging steel at long range. Also long barrel life and the availability of reamer, dies and brass in a big consideration,.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts or advice. Matt

I have plaid with none of the round you named, but have 3 6-284`s and a 6mm 0n the 300 WSM case. What I can tell you is that you will need and inside neck reamer. With these over bore cases you will get a doughnut form at the bottom of the case neck. Depending on how hot you load them you may have to inside neck ream after ever firing. After all of my playing around so far I have found the 224 TTH to be a better varmint round, so far. Have fun.

Hey Matt,

You have some very specific questions, I cant answer, but Im guessing you are on the right track. Ive been shooting SLRs for four years and really like the round. Do a search or just page down a bit and you will find lots of data. I run a .090 freebore and load 108s and hybrids in my savage mag. I just finished chambering yet another SLR in a Ruger Precision. Ive been screwing around with mags and even the p mags are going to accommodate my 108 load. The hybrid load may require a steel mag. Its such an easy and forgiving combo to play with...good luck!

well matt good questions.I would also be interested in knowing what you need to run the SLR in a repeater action.
I think the SLR is a great cartridge imo good choice. the 6x47L seems good. I know the 6XC is good.
matt I actually went with the 6XC due to I did not want to mess around with extended actions or mag's as the XC was designed to work from a standard short action. which I had one that would work with out extra expense. I now have two 6XC and I am quite fond of them. I know for certain as use mine for hunting and play around target shooting you are going to enjoy which ever 6 bore you choose to launch the 105's and 115's. another reason I stayed away from the SLR was I have necked up and down, turned and formed more cases that I care to admit so any thing that needed done before I could shoot it made me unhappy and I can be picky and did not want to run into any sizing problem that would make me want to inside ream or neck turn a case..so the 6XC seemed to just be right for me. although I may build a 6SLR here in the next few years maybe.

I ordered reamers for both the 6SLR and 6x47L. I didn't go with the 6XC as there is only one source of brass and it seemed tenuous at best. I really liked what I read about the 6 CM but it required fire forming. With the SLR you can simply run W-W brass into the die one time and it is done. The 6x47L requires the same. I made cases of both up first before deciding on neck diameters.

I run one on a Stiller short action in AI mags, shooting 107 MK with the .075 reamer and I seem to have good luck, no feeding issues and I have room in from of the mag if I want to go longer. I really like that fact that you lube a 243 brass, send it up in the sizer die and your done. Mine shoots GREAT with 4831 SC!!

I'm running a defiance short action with the AI aw mags. My reamer had .120 freebore. I couldn't reach the lands at mag length and 105 hybrids. For my next barrel I had the freebore shortened to .080. Brass is super easy to form. I haven't had any doughnut problems. I think those show up with Lapua and Norma brass. Mine will consistently run in the .2's. Unfortunately, mine runs a bit slow, 2900.

Scott, what are you using for a load and what is your barrel length??? Thanks!!

My orginal load was 43.8 H4831, Hornady brass, federal GM primers. 2.980 to the octive. My barrel sped up at about 800 rounds so I dropped back to 43.5. Came back into my 2900 node. My barrel is 24".

Rumor is that you can get 2500 to 3000 rounds of competition level accuracy. Your mileage may very significantly depending on rate of fire and loadings. When you consider that he parent 243Win typically gets less than 2000 that's pretty good.

Scott your right where I am at with the 4831SC load. I am at 2890+ with my 24" barrel. Have you tried H1000 yet??? It is close to 100fps faster in my rifle.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me on the barrel life question. I was tossing up between doing a 6mm SLR or a 6.5 SLR . I want a cartridge that will mag feed from AI mags and I like the SLR because of the ease of using 243 brass. If I knew I could get a 6mm Dasher to feed reliably from AI mags I might go that way as I already have a reamer and dies etc.
But I think the SLR might be a better mag feeder and the 243 brass is always available.
