6mm SLR....worth the investment?

The 6 Creed is nothing but the 6 XC in commercial form. The XC has won more than its share of matches. It is best with 105-107 wt.. bullets. It starts to show its limitations when heavier bullets (115s) are used. The SLR shines driving 105 really fast or when using 115s. Use the slower powders in the SLR like VV165 or H1000 for the best combination of accuracy n bbl life. An SLR shooting 115s in a 30“ bbl is right on the heals of a 6.5x284.

I will have to respectfully disagree. The 6mm Creed is not related to the 6XC. It has more in common with the 243 and 6SLR then the 6XC of which I Own all three The 6mm Creed has the same internal Case Capacity as the 243 and 6SLR. While the 6XC is based off of the much shorter 22-250 case.
I have with top pressure, ran the 105gr class bullets up to 3400fps with the 6mm Creed and the 243, and the SLR. ( all with 30" barrels) However,, Just never found a good consistent load up there, I suspect it would very difficult to get the 6XC up to those speeds with the same pressure as it has much smaller internal Case Capacity.
Just a thought.
Hope this finds you well Bob

Russ, I am doing well. Just getting ready next month for Cataract surgery. Guardedly optimistic to get back to shooting my iron sights.
A shooting team mate has made 6XC brass from 6mm Creed. He wanted SRP brass and Tubb was out of the SRP 6XC. So he went and purchased Peterson 6mm Creed and ran it thru the 6XC FL die and Viola'. I don't doubt that you can get a 105 up to 3400 in a 6mm Creed, but can you reuse the brass after that?
3400fps with a 105 is SLR/243 territory. I don't own a Creed but do shoot the SLR and 6XC.
Hope our paths cross again other than on the net :)

Bob3700, could you spare a few/lot of words on SLR vs 6XC ?

I wanted to shoot heavier (115 gr) bullets in 1K matches. Using a 6XC bolt gun with a 30 inch bbl, shooting those heavies up at 3050 fps was possible but it cost me brass life. The DTACS are wonderfully accurate bullets n have a drift advantage at the longer ranges.
When Whitney brought out the SLR, I jumped on a reamer n dies. Driving the DTACS at 3100 fps was no problem. Using powders like VV165 and H1000 extenders bbl life as 243s have the rep for having short bbl life.
U can run some comparisons between an SLR with 115s and a 6.5x284 and see the SLR is right there with better bbl life n less recoil.
6XC is best with 105-107s. It is a cartridge that works in a SS action or feeds well from a magazine. Bbl life is around 2200-2400 rds and brass is easy to come by.
I have had great success with both, u can’t loose with easier one.

big thanks!

Just FYI, using Lapua 243 brass to make 6mmSLR. you WILL get donut's as we have all found out loading for the SLR. Then its a matter of turning necks to eliminate it. Not much fun.
I still think, after two 1/2 season's of running the 6mm Creed its the way easier button. Order, Brass, Load and shoot. Run a heavy 109, 110, 115 at 3100 just as easy as it can with what should be long brass life as its not even close to be a hot load.
Just a thought...

Russ,
U are 100 percent correct. Whitney’s reamer was designed for WW or REM brass. Lapua brass is thicker , especially in the necks and therefore requires neck turning.
I have used WW and REM brass for my SLR loading.

IMO the 6mm SLR, SHOULD Replace, the OLD .243 Win, "barrel Burner" ! ( It's Way Past,.. Time ! )
It should Be,.. a Factory Round !
IF, needing a Fast, 6mm, I'd use, the 6 SLR for, the 110- 115's and Use, the wonderfully Accurate, 6 XC for, 80 gr to 108 grain Bullets with, a 1-8 or 1-7.5 Twist. Both Cart's, are, Easier on Barrels than, the 6 Creed / .243 Win,. IMO
Sorry, to Be,.. BLUNT !

243 case, 6mm Creed, 6XC from left to right. You can see with little body taper of the Creed and 30* shoulder the Creed case holds almost the same amount of powder as the 243 Winchester, just like the SLR does, after you push the shoulder back, and blow the body taper out with that same 30* shoulder. All in all the 6mm Creed, the 243, and the 6mmSLR all have close to the same internal case capacity it turns out. Ballistic triplets.
