6mm Remington

The 6mm Remington is one of my favorites. The only reason it failed to gain popularity is that Remington screwed up and used the wrong twist for their rifles. I've got a Remington 700 and a 6mmAI I built using a Mauser action. Wonderful accuracy and the AI give the cartridge approximately 10% extra volume allowing you to pick up a couple hundred extra FPS.

As with a lot of things people try to use things not the way they were intended. The 244rem then 6mm was designed to be a varmint slayer. Then when people figured out it wouldnt shoot a 105-110 on deer like the 243 they get mad. Never figured out why that was- nobody is bashing toyota because their prius wont haul plywood or pull their camper?

Yep. Only issue was people dismissed its intended use and tried to use it for something else

Thanks for all the replies! Personally I love the 6mm Remington. Could i push more velocity yup but then brass life goes to crap. Currently useing H1000 w 105 hybrids out of a 30” 7.5 twist 1.25” straight taper. At 1324 rounds and still prints 1” or better if I can do my part at 300.

Actually I think a tikka action with a 24” 7.5 twist. At #4 taper would be a nice light carry rifle. The tikka action is the perfect length and butter smooth.

Just figured out my next build.

A #4 isnt considered a lightweight barrel. A #2 is the standard caliber sporter weight barrel with the #3 being the magnum standard. A #4 is between the remington varmint and magnum sporter which really doesnt fit any stock without work or a gap

If action length in a 6mm Remington is an issue: get yourself a Cooper. My M22’s is more than 1/2” longer than a SA 700.
Brass availability? Thanks to recent runs by Hornady and Winchester, I’ve stocked up on more than I’ll use in a lifetime.
Can’t remember even taking the .243s out of the safe since getting my 6mm....

Whats the gun setup there? Stock, barrel, action..etc?

I have shot the Rem 788 in 6mm and I pick up a mint condition Rem 600 in 6mm I just love that gun.

Got one. Love it. But the history of the 6mm Remington being born without a pulse is fairly common knowledge.

I have a 6mm Ackley being built on a 700 long action as I type this. The 243 can't compete unless you go with a 30"+ barrel as the previous poster.

That is some serious speed. My 243AI runs only 3160 from a 28” barrel and 49.5gr of Retumbo.

My pdog partner gave me one. Rem 700. Trigger sucked about 9#s. We swapped out a spring from the local hardware store. Some creep but much better. 5 or 10 rounds later i stopped flinching so much with the improved trigger.
I really enjoyed shooting the 6. Got some very decent shots.
The AR15 is now one of my 2 favorite rifles.
I have 87 vmax and 70 bk, will try 4064 and 748 for now.
6mm Remington is awesome.
