6mm REMINGTON recipes

So here I am an old dog trying to understand new tricks. I have a 1975 Rugar #1b in 6mm Rem, with a 1-10 twist, (according to the factory) that I have shot probably 50 rounds through it, at coyotes and a couple deer. Since it has been a long time, I last bought 6mm Rem ammo it appears to be very hard to find, these days. So, I have bought an OLD Classic Lee loader and decided to give a shot at reloading the very few rounds I shoot. I have always shot over the counter 6mm Reminton 100 gr Core-lokt ammo and have hit my coyote and deer targets pretty consistently. My shots are between 100-150 yards and never taken one longer and do not intend to. With ALL this being said I am interested in what people suggest as a reload for shooting 100-150 yards for coyote and deer? I have read numerous things on reloading and much of it is way over my head and I just want to reload a few to shoot a coyote or two and possibly put a deer in my freezer. I actually do not use this rifle much because I prefer to hunt deer with black powder muzzle stuffers and use it more to shoot coyote. Thank you for any experience you all can share with this old dog trying to learn a new trick.

Sierra 85gr. BTHP, healthy dose of RL19 has always given me great accuracy and velocities. Hybrid 100V can get them screaming also. Brian.

How deep do you wish to dive into this rabbit hole ?

The LEE loader should come with basic instructions and a list of recommended loads.....follow them !
Several common powders and projectiles will work fine for your needs but you could consider 2 loads, 1 for the dogs and another with a more stout projectile for deer.
Some good guidance here:

Once projectiles are selected go onto their websites for the suggested loads for the 6mm Rem.
Have fun and don't push too hard until having learnt a good bit more about rolling your own.

Sierra 1530 85g game kings are the ticket. I have some to spare if you need. I use them in my 244 ackley. Been a easy to load bullet and very accurate for me.

I shot a 6mm Rem for 35 years for GH hunting. My favorite bullet also was the Sierra 85 Gr HP. Used mostly 4831 and 4350 powder. I don't have my load data any more. Other bullets may be more accurate? Good enough. 2009 put a 6BR barrel on it. When I picked a powder I normally looked in a reloading manual and saw which 5 powders gave the highest FPS and picked one I thought was in common use and in the stores.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I have been reading on this for some time now but it seems there are numerous opinions on all components and my dilemma in understanding it all is how much does it actually matter. This Lee loader is just that, OLD and it shows a charge table for bullet grains from 75 -105, powder types of 3031, 4895, 4064, 4320 and 4350 and powder grains but nothing specific. In looking at components of some recipes I can't seem to find the exact specific ingredients in my area. This also includes primers that they specify in cited recipes. What I find are few brands of powder mostly Hodgen 4350 and it seems the local sporting goods store has limited reloading components. What I have also found is that shipping them involves the Hazmat fee driving the cost up as well. Sadly this is the exact same issues I ran into when shooting my black powder muzzle stuffers where it got to the point of not even being able to purchase ingredients so as to make it monetarily feasible to shoot them once a year during deer season. The primers were another issue for the muzzle loader as number 11 caps were nearly impossible to purchase UNLESS one bought tons of them and paid the shipping plus the hazmat fee. Black powder was impossible to buy and the others were never in stock anywhere and there goes the hazmat fee to ship. Not being experienced in reloading, except stuffing grains of powder and a projectile down the bore for 50+ years, I felt it wise to seek advice from those with the experience as to what may be readily available over the counter today. Many of the recipes I have read are old and use the IMR 4350 which, I find is no longer available. I'm just trying to figure the basics out so as to shoot one load safely for 100 yards or less on deer and coyotes. I also found that the only Remington 6mm available are in the 100 grain Core-Lokt and nearly impossible to find unless ordered online with all the extra fees which led me to consider reloading my own 50 or so once fired Remington casings. As one can tell I am not a led burner from my owning this Rugar for 30+ years and only shooting 50 rounds through it. It appears this rabbit hole can get pretty deep.

I have loaded with IMR 4350 and thought that it was pretty readily available. What powders do you have locally? I've also loaded 6.5 Staball which burns a lot cooler for shooting from the bench.

My pet load in a 6 Rem VLS a few years back was 45.5gr of H4350 under a Hornady 87gr Vmax lit by a Fed 210M. Great cartridge!
Good luck, Aaron
Yep, oldy but a goodie and some of the best shooting I've seen was with the 6mm Rem !
1 1/4" 5 shot group at 500 and jack rabbits @ 800+

105 Bergers pushed harder than anything seen in print < carefully developed max load.
Had retained 2k fps and 1k ftlbs @ 750, the magic numbers to take bigger game.

Seems about the only powder I can find in stock at many of the places I have looked at online is H4350. I still have to travel a little over an hour to get it. I'm going to check out loads using that powder as it appears it may be my only one available at the time.

I have shooting and reloading for my 6MM for about 14yrs with factory barrel was loading 87vmax and Varget a couple years ago had a 1:7 twist barrel installed now im running 105 bergers and RL22
