Advice on Load Development Rem 700 - 30 06

150 gr gamekings are awesome easy shooting bullets.

Imr 4350 is a great powder. Slightly temp sensitive so keep that in mind when working up loads now for deer season.

Nosler lists powder range of 55-59 grains of imr 4350 with 150 gr bullets.

I would load 3.320 coal

I would load 15 rounds starting at 55 and increase by 0.3 gr. Watch for pressure signs [ejector marks, stiff bolt].

Start on the low side and give your rifle plenty of time to cool down in between shots and work up.

If you can, shoot at 2-300 yards.

I presume you don't have a chrono... but if you do record each shot.

Your target will show you a pattern of getting tighter and further apart.

Find the spot where they hit together the closest and load a few and see what kind of group you can get. You will be less than 20 shots in and will have an idea what this gun is capable of in that combo.

I would guess the best you can expect is just under an moa.

Biggest improvement for me in factory 700s is a trigger upgrade. Big fan of trigger tech. Triggers are easy to replace.

Also bedding the action as someone pointed out.

Let us know how it goes.

I had great luck with 178 eldx and federal TLR Edge 175;s,with imr 4995.But it was a Tikka..5 MOA.Overkill for deer but work great.

Check the rifle's twist rate.A 12 twist will shoot well with bullets in the 150-168 weight range.A 10 twist will shoot better with bullets in the 175-220 weight range. For deer here in WV in my 12 twist,I get along fine with 168 grain Berger Classic hunters. They are very accurate and I've found that they do as advertised-penetrate a few inches and then all hell breaks loose.I've killed a little over a dozen deer with them, and not one has took a step after the shot. One of my 308's is a 10 twist, and I get good results with Federal Edge TLR's weighing 175 grains. Most M700's will shoot better if the barrel is free floated and the action is epoxy bedded.Remington still uses a pressure point in the forend so they can be sloppy on stock dimensions and still make the rifle shoot good enough for most hunters. At the very least free float the barrel. Most well made bullets in today's world will turn in respectable groups if they're shot in a clean well made rifle. There's no reason a 700 won't shoot 3 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards if the prep work is good.Deer aren't hard to kill, and just about any bullet will do the job, albeit some are better than others.

When I first got the rifle the thing would shoot 8 MOA. The crown was damaged and the lugs were seating unevenly - right from the factory. I sent it back to Remington (they made me pay for shipping which was outrageous) and complained. They recrowned the barrel and gave me a new bolt. They shot for group and got <1MOA (so they say). Other than that that is it. I like to tinker a littl at the reloading bench so I was going to see what I can do with a little experimentation.

Would Serra Game King bullets be an equivalent to Core Lokt? I don't see that I can get the Core Lokt bullets around here. But the Game Kings are available.
The Gamekings are in my opinion far more likely to provide better accuracy than any Remington Corelokt. I have also had good success using the Sierra Gameking 165 grain bullet in both my 30-06 and 308.
