Records, while recognizing a shooters achievement, have very little to do with shooting Matches on any given day.
While you might be correct, most of us don't attend or keep track of individual performances on Matches conducted on any given day. I only get to Matches when I want to compete and it's relatively close by these days. Usually, in general, we only see the condensed version as supplied by the Match coordinators after the fact. It can be the only data available to most of us.
It might be just an opinion, but wouldn’t a Remington 6mm Ackley Improved be classed as “overbore”.
Yes, probably. But those calculations are simple approximations because they lack the complexity to calculate pressure and powder performance. I seem to read where the term 'overbore' is used to discriminate rather than being a helpful explanation.
My one load in particular currently uses Re-25 under the 110gr. A-Tip. Using a Pressure Trace, I am seeing pressure along the lines of 56,000 PSI at 3,200 fps. but using 53.5 gr. not 42+ grains.
When I first cut one of these chambers over 20 years ago, I was using the 105 AMAX and Re-25 with approximately the same results. I also make my own barrels so I'm not dependent on manufacturers schedules and costs.
It would seem that pushing a 108 grn+ 6 mm bullet at over 3200 with 42+ grns of suitable powder would burn a throat up in about 700/800 rounds.
I can't answer that. My first barrel lasted approximately 1,200 rounds by my notes. This one I'm guessing will be nearly the same +/- a little.
interesting conversation.
Yes sir, absolutely!
