6mm Remington Reamer

I am putting a Savage 110 LA together in the old 6mm Remington. I was looking a the PTG website and they listed 2 6mm Remington reamers. One was 6mm Remington CIP and the other was 6mm Remington SAAMI. What is the difference?

CIP is the European standard
SAAMI is the US standard

I would suggest getting print of both and compare. They could be the same one in metric and the other in inch measurements. The prints would need to be examined to make sure.

Since you're buying a reamer you might consider getting a custom longer freebore.

The 6mm Rem is designed as short action and pushes the limit of the case overall length for short action repeaters. you're building yours on a long action so you aren't limited on case length. There are a lot of high BC 6mm bullets out and coming out and the extra case capacity of the 6mm Rem can take advantage of them. You might want to go with a longer freebore in the .120-.130" range. Your case OAL probably won't work in short action but you've got lots of room.

Thanks for the input. I'll be sure and do that!

6mm Remington with 80g bullet loaded with Superperformance is beyond belief in speed 3600+, need a shorter freebore for this bullet, blows up coyotes and chucks way out there.

Use a long action

My 6mm Rem. AI was chambered with Dave Mansons' "standard" reamer for that chambering. No extra tight neck (neck clearance w/ Rem brass is already .0035" on average), no longer free bore or throat angle. It's in a Hart #4, 1-7 twist @ 25". I've been loading 107g SMKs and they seat with the bearing surface of the bullet at the neck/shoulder junction. I haven't loaded any 115g DTACs, yet. No need to get fancy with this one, she'll drive 16 penny nails consistently.

JGS SAAMI spec reamer. I haven't used it yet but do plan on long Remington 700. I've owned a couple of std. 6mm Remingtons, and several Improved versions. I like them.

Something to look at and compare. Waverly
