6mm remington ai

I have a 6mm remington ackley that is giving me headaches. Here are the specs:
Stiller Predator LA
Mcgowen Precision 26" bbl 1:10t
XLR Element 4.0 chassis
Elftman trigger
I've ran almost every bullet/powder combo imaginable. Changed brass, primers and dies. Round count is at 165. This thing will not group to save my life! Any advise??

Could have picked a cartridge known to be good at 1000 yards to make it easier. What kind of groups do you get at 100 yards?

The barrel is likely just done settling down (speeding up?).

All those changes in only 165 rounds? Tell us more about your development methods.

Speaking for myself, the problem is often, but not always, the loose screw behind the trigger.

Every Ackley I've ever owned always shot better groups fire forming than the Ackley product. I would definitely be looking into the scope, bases, and make sure ur not flinching.

Also make sure the barrel is tight. I once saw a situation where the custom barrel actually started to come loose.

FWIW, had a similar problem with a 308 hunter which I couldn't get under 2".

One day dry firing I spotted the scope crosshairs jump and realised the scope needed work.
As luck has it, it was a Leopold so sent it back for rework and got it back with new glass and rebuilt erector system.
Now it cloverleafs like all of my hunting rifles.

This is kind of a " kick him while he's down" type response. Also the 6 Rem and AI, while not common as more modern 6br, creedmoor and other variants, it still is a performer. I've built two AI's and have two old 788's in 6mm. Of you're getting groups of 2-3" I would be taking a little g hard look at the barrel itself, the 6 Rem and AI are typically not too fussy to load for.

6mm Rem and AI perform just fine at 1000, don't think otherwise. Just not common and a supply of quality brass is non existent. Most make it from 8x57 or 30-06 Lapua

I've ran a few 6mm Rem. I agree, they are not fussy at all. This is the first AI version I've had. The barrel came to me from McGowan, out of spec. I sent it and my action back and the fixed it. I still think the chamber job was a hack.

Its all been checked. Everything is torqued down and all good.

I've just started trying to develop a load around the 125 round mark. I've got 4 customs that settled in very quick and are tack drivers. Usually a gun will show some promise early on. This one might as well be a shotgun.

I see above you haven't tried flat base so presume these were all boat tail. At 1:10 and BT, likely a twist issue.

Try flat base in the 60-80gr. Something made for a slower twist, just to verify it's definitely not twist related. Either that or verify the twist really is 1:10. My 6mm rem was 1:9 and I had to be careful what I pushed through it so at 1:10...
