6mm Rem AI

Anyone reloading 6 ackley? I recently picked up a gun with a 6 ackley and 25-06 ackley barrels. I have a little experience with 25-06 AI, but not with 6 ackley.
What’s some favorite loads for a 1:8 twist?
Also what should I expect barrel life wise?

I have a Ruger M77 in 6mm that would not shoot. Had it re-barreled to a 6AI with a 1/8 twist. Working with it now. So far still blowing out brass but R-19 shows promise with 100gr hunting bullets. I also would be interested in other's thoughts. Also, like johnmyers says get a manual. I found a Sierra 5th edition that has 6AI information. Picked up on Ebay.

The 6AI has long been a great varmint getter. Go to the main page here and look up Richard Frankiln's writings on the caliber. You'll find a ton of good info. If you need more loads - I have data from 58 grain to 108 bergers.

PM me if you want specifics or 7x57 brass formed for the AI

6 Remington 1-7.5 115 D-Tack 4831 sc
Killer at 1000 yard Prone Rifle.
Barrel life 1200 to 1400 by 1500 hard to hold the 10 ring .
After the 2nd Barrel went another direction.
Thanks. It’s a 1-8 twist I believe. I have 8# of h4831. It’s in a McMillan hunter br stock, bat m action so lots of options when it comes time to for another barrel.
Still need to get a good scope for it.

Sierra#5 has load data and probably others as well. I’ve always used 8 twist and H4831. I did have a 6 Rem. with a 9 twist and it was fine with hunting bullets. My current 6 Rem. Is an 8 twist and I still use H4831, and H4831SC.

Haven't shot mine yet, has an 8 twist barrel and will be used on rockchucks with 70 and 75 gr bullets. Most likely with 4831 or 760 / 2700. If yours is for varmints, consider this. Years ago there were video clips posted on media, can't remember which, and many different people all claiming it was them or someone they knew, videoing "taliban snipers being shot with .50 cal", or mountain goats, or some such nonsense. Actually those clips were taken from a friend's varmint hunting video, I believe it was Varmint Safari II. In truth these were rockchucks being shot with.......a 6AI and 75Vmax doing about 3800. The results were nothing short of spectacular. You're in PA and if chucks are on your target list, the 6AI will make you very happy.

Yup!
When I had mine the 75 grain Vmax, 70 grain ballistic tip and the 70 grain BK were brutal on ground hogs and foxes! I think the 70 BK edged the other two out a little. Also the 80 grain Sierra Blitz would really Whomp them

Sadly not too many actual groundhogs in my area, not too far of shots either. 300 yards max. I would love to go out west, maybe next year. It’s a 1:8 twist so I’m aiming for 90-105 gr bullets.
I do plan on taking it to some shoots this summer if I can get it dialed in and get a good scope for it.

Thanks. It’s a long barrel so it could be set back at least once. If I burn it out I can change it myself once I get a barrel vise and action wrench since it’s on a bat m.

RE19 and RE22 both worked well in mine with the 107SMK, 105 AMax, and the 105 VLDs…. I got a bunch of RWS 7x57 brass on close out and made me a lot of 6 mm Ackley brass. Much tougher that the old Win and RP I had used. I have pushed the bullets above to 3300-3400 fps with no loose primer pockets after 10 firings. RP was giving it up in 2-3 firings….
Luck, Tim
