6mm PPC USA?

Hi, I was given a Sako 6mm PPC USA. Can I fire form brass for it using .220 Russian brass? Can 6mm PPC brass be used in it? Thanks, billy

Try some Norma 6PPC.USA brass available from Midway and others. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1311432351/norma-reloading-brass-6mm-ppc

Should not have to turn the necks of the Norma brass as the outside neck diameter of a loaded round will be approx 0.266". Could use Lapua 220 Russian brass but you will obviously have to expand the necks and I feel quite certain you will also have to "turn the necks" to reduce the neck wall thickness so the loaded round will fit in your 6PPC.USA chamber.
FYI, the VihtaVuori 3rd. edition reloading manual shows a maximun 6PPC.USA loaded neck diameter of .268. Consistent with that, Shilen's reamer list shows a neck diameter of .270 for their "6PPC-Sako" reamer.

I have the same gun and mine is also a single shot. Not sure if you've shot your gun or not but I will say this, these older Sako 6PPC USA rifles are the most accurate out of the box factory rifles ever made, bar none. As for brass, Sako made brass for these guns and I'm not sure if you can get Sako 6PPC USA brass now or not, maybe someone will read this and know if brass is available. I bought a lot of brass years ago and recently bought more but as someone mentioned above Norma makes 6PPC USA brass and it works great. As for Lapua 220 Russian brass, it will work but the chambers in these guns are bigger then bench rest PPC chambers although I'm not sure of the neck size. Load some up with H322 about half way up the necks with a good 68 grain bullet see how it shoots and lets us know how it goes.

Thanks, Dave T. and all. I haven't shot it yet but am looking forward to doing so. Trying to figure out if there is a way to have a picatinny rail mounted on it. have a target scope with rings that attach to a picatinny base and sure would like the convenience of just switching the scope from one rifler to the other.

Billy, Weaver makes bases for your Sako. Don't go half way up the neck with H322 in Norma brass or you may truly have a single shot. With a 70 grain bullet, Hodgdon shows a H322 max of 26.5 grains and in my Ruger 6PPC.USA chamber this powder load is below the neck shoulder junction of the Norma brass. Don't used published benchrest match loads as the custom actions are stronger than your small Sako action. Be safe and enjoy.
