6mm PPC, any love left???

Have a chance to buy a 6mmPPC. it would be used for LR shooting to 600 yards. I do not want to do any "heavy" brass prep, just size, prime, load, seat and shoot.

I like the particular rifle I'm looking at, it seems the 6mmPPC is not the best cal. for what I want but will it work and be competitive?

If not I may build a 6.5 Creedmoor

Not the best one. I would look at a 6 BR, it is a lot better for 600 yard. Get an 8 twist for the heavy bullets. Matt

I can echo the others above. 6.5x47 or 6BR you will have to do minimal if any hrass prep.
6.5creed you would have to do a lot of sourting because its very inconsistent and poor in quality.

Sounds to me like you're looking for a 8.5 to 9 twist .243AI. Sure am looking forward to the day Grimstod loses his anti-Creedmoor phobia, because IMO that's another excellent candidate.

There is a version of the PPC that has the same case capacity as the BR. Called the PPC 40 or something, designed for the guys that wanted to play with LR benchrest and didn't want to change their boltface. Pretty slick little cartridge.

Your talking about the 6PPC 40 degree shoulder. It does not have the same capacity as a BR case. A 6BR case holds about 38 grains of water, the 6PPC 40 holds 35.5. That 6ppc 40 is no long range cartridge whatsoever. I have a rifle chambered in 30 Gorilla, which is a 6.5 Grendel case necked up to .308 and shoulder blown forward from 30 to 35 degrees and that case is closer to a BR case, but still not quite there. Same thing, the Gorilla was designed for short range score shooting.

Jim is correct on the differences in case capacity between the 6BR and 6PPC 40°. The Firewalker cartridge was a 40° shoulder 6PPC from the 1980's that had only limited success. The 6PPC 40° actually has a case capacity closer to the 6mm Grendel.
