6mm Freebore Question

Good Afternoon,

I am about to rechamber an 8 twist barrel that I have to a 6mm Dasher. There are two different reamers available from the company that we intend on using for reamer rental. One of them has a Freebore of .1281" and the other has a freebore of .104". I am intending to shoot Berger 105 Hybrid bullets. Can anyone tell me which of these reamers would be best suited for this cartridge/bullet combination. I would love to shoot something even sleeker than the 105, but I may not have enough barrel twist to support anything longer/heavier. Thanks in advance for the help.

Either will work. The .104 gives you more to work with. The .124 get you a little further away from the donut area and more room for powder.

Thanks for the quick reply Terry. When you say that the .104 gives you more to work with, do you mean that I will have enough left to chase the lands after some erosion?

I have both a .104 and a .140 Dasher reamer. I much prefer the .140. I have gone thru 4 barrels and have never run out of neck chasing the lands and the longer freebore keeps me out of the donut area. It seems to me that the longer freebore is a little easier to tune and handles pressure a little better. Just my opinion.

Go for the longer free bore. Even .140”-.150” still gives you enough to chase the lands if need be.
