You're likely gonna want more freebore. Along the lines of .080-.100ishHopefully someone can shed some light, I picked up a 6mm Rem AI reamer for cheap, manson reamer with .025 freebore.
Anyone able to tell if I could still run the 90-105 weight bullets with this freebore?
Thanks
Plum
Thankyou, I was wondering if that would be the case. As I'm not a gunsmith or barrel maker, can a competent smith cut the chamber and increase the freebore after? You're likely gonna want more freebore. Along the lines of .080-.100ish
Yes, but it's best done in a single setup or with a reamer that has the desired freebore. But yes, a good smith should be able to dial it in and do it in a separate op. Just give him a couple of dummy rounds, at least one with your desired bullet seated where you want it and a couple with the bullet seated long. I chuckle when I see reamer prints with a very specific number, like .104 for example. Freebore isn't a very specific number like that. It's just putting the bullet roughly where you want it in the neck. Most reamer prints are +/- .005 on length if that tells you anything.Thankyou, I was wondering if that would be the case. Thanks again, glad to hear the Bergers work for him. Ive also been using the 90 gr sierra tipped game kings in my heavy 6AI, my wife and I both have had great luck with them on whitetail and muley's.With the Extra Long Neck of, the 6mm Rem Case,.. it, "Might" be, enough !
I'd make, a Mock up and Try it as you can always, "Lengthen", Chamber FB,.. Later.
My 6XC has, .104 FB and is, PLENTY but your 6 rem Neck is much, Longer,.. IIRC
Might "Compare" ! PS; your recommendation for, Berger 87 grain H-VLD's in a .243 Win was, "Bang On" !
My grandson has shot 2,. Nice Muley's both, DRT ( this year he got a Huge heavy horned, 4 x 5 !
