6mm Dasher vs 6mm Creedmoor

Is anyone seeing any real differences between the two calibers. Velocity or accuracy at 1000 yd matches? My gunsmith just got a new Creedmoor reamer and I'm considering a new project.

Thanks

I have no real experience with running either in competition but I will say I have seen a bit better accuracy out of my Dasher barrel. I only have a few hundred on the creedmoor and have some more tuning to do. They are both running the same velocities. The other day I had the creedmoor out to 557 and was hitting a 4 inch hostage taker target without much trouble. The creedmoor can be pushed to the next node without trouble were the Dasher is on the top end already.

Here is a 10 shot group at 100 from the creedmoor during load work up. I Then tested to 557 and it seemed to hold up. I hope to get it out further soon. It does show some promise.20170926_150909.jpg

Nice group Nick. But looking at what your saying. The Dasher could do as well with about 10 gr less powder. So what' the big deal on the Creedmoor? How much more can the Creedmor be pushed?

Thanks, I agree with you and that is kinda my thinking with the limited experience I have with it. I pushed the creedmoor to 3230 with a 107 smk. It was HOT. The accuracy was so so I dropped it back down and never attempted to push it again. But I only get about 2950 with my Dasher and my load. If it was truly for competition I would probably lean towards the Dasher or the 6BRA. They are both proven and also like you pointed out very close in performance with way less powder then the creedmoor.

Velocity. You can push the 6 Creed easily over 3100fps with the same bullet the Dasher is 2800-2900. Not everyone wants or needs the flatter trajectory but you can always download the Creedmoor.

Also you need to look at if you will be running a DBM as most of the time Dashers will run fine and they make adapters to make sure they feed as well. Patriot Valley Arms makes some as Josh is a huge Dasher fan. Just something to be aware of.

What do you plan to use the rifle for?

The rifle is be used as a varmint rifle. Maybe some target at longer ranges. Already shooting a 6x47L, just looking at another project. Getting 3100 out of the 6x47L and almost 3 out of a Dasher. Just reading about the Creedmoor and curious what its all about. Probably not enough there to be of much interest to me.

Thanks Folks for the input.

I don't think you get will much more speed over a 6x47L. First what bullet are you using? The best 6mm Varmint bullet is the Hornady 87gr Vmax. The 87gr Vmax is like a lighting bolt. If you want a great Varmint round with speed, look at the 6mm Rem AI. I was getting 3700 f/s with the 87 gr vmax.

I get 5 shot groups like this at 200yds, DTACs, JLKs, VLDH with my 6 Creed.

As a slight observance, when shooting varmints, we're not shooting tiny little groups at longer ranges. We're shooting one shot groups at things like prairie dogs and rock chucks. This is not to say that I'm disparaging tiny groups at all, I'm not. But with varmint hunting, I'm looking for all the velocity I can get when it comes to drop and drift at the target. The 6mm Creedmoor, when upping its game to next node, does exactly that. 3250 using the Berger VLD Hunter is not "Probably not enough there to be of much interest to me." It is significant when it comes down to drop and drift, especially approaching 1,000 yards. It may not be razor edged accuracy but it is more than enough to kill varmints at those extended ranges. I know, I've done it with this cartridge and dozens of others. I take nothing away from the Dasher, BRA, BRX, BR or the x47 as they are very highly respected Match cartridges with stellar reputations. Any of these will provide the varmint hunter with a superb experience when shooting varmints or targets. But with varmints, it never hurts to have a little extra velocity.;):D

I have shot both the 6mm Creedmore and the 6mm Dasher at 1000yd Benchrest matches. While I have beat several Dashers in competition with the Creedmoor the Dasher is much easier to keep in tune and is much easier on barrels than the Creedmoor.

I shoot the Dasher now in competition instead of the Creedmoor if that tells you anything. I haven't shot any 1000yd Benchrest in a couple years, I do still shoot the 6mm Dasher in 600yd F-Class though.
That said for hunting I prefer the 6mm or 6.5 Creedmoor.

I agree that the Dasher and other BR variants are easier to tune and keep that way. I recently had my 2nd 6 Creedmoor built. 1st one was a GA Precision that shot ok. However, this new one shoots amazing...accuracy far exceeds my abilities. So, between this rifle and a Dasher, my scores would not go up if I were using a Dasher. I am the limiting factor, not the caliber.

Kurz, I see your point for me the tiny group thing is about confidence in my set up. It just makes me feel good. Especially when I start pushing the distance.
Like stated in another post the Dasher has been easier to keep shooting longer. Again this is for me. I find I have to chase the throat in the 6 creedmoor more often to maintain the same accuracy as my dasher. Again this is just me playing around I am not a benchrest or FCLASS shooter. The only rifle I shoot in competition at this time is my Palma rifle which is a completely different game.

Last 600BR match I got beat by two Dashers by .020" & .025", that's a win to me, you know, sorta. I'll keep shooting my 6 Creeds

Me too. I have both in the same style stock. Both shoot great, but the dasher is much better results and with the shoulder will be much easier on the barrel life.
