6mm Dasher Loads

Not my favorite loads yet, but here's some data for anyone to reference:

Impact action
26" Proof 1:7.5tw prefit 6mm Dasher
Mixed Lapua brass. Some hydro formed, some fire formed, different lot numbers. (This is my first Dasher so I picked 50 pcs of brass to do barrel break in and start looking for loads, I have not committed to one version of brass forming yet)
CCI 450's
All Berger 105 VLD's jumping about .040
5 shot strings except one.

31.5gr Varget = 2865fps \ SD 5.8\ ES 15 -
31.6gr Varget = 2875fps \ SD 7.4 \ ES22 - 7shots - not on paper.
32.0gr Varget = 2900fps \ SD 5 \ ES 13

34.5gr H4350 = 2835fps \ SD 8 \ES 19
35.0gr H4350 = 2889fps \ SD 10.7 \ ES 27
35.5gr H4350 = 2917fps \ SD 7 \ ES 17

35.5 gr of H4350 is about the most I can get into my cases without drop tubes or other means of cramming more powder in there. Just starting to compress at my seating depth, which is 1.775 cbto.

More tuning to follow. And possibly target photos but they are prety boring. Not great, but not terrible.

Hi, I'm running low on Varget, might try 4350, so what is your AOL on the 4350 loads?

At 1.775 CBTO my COAL is 2.374. Again, about .040 0ff in my chamber. This seems to be a very comfortable seating depth and lots of different powder charges shoot this bullet well at this depth. Berger 105 VLD Target.

I just loaded my next test with H4350@ 35.5gr again,35.7gr and 35.9gr
Also my next loads with Varget @ 32.0gr again, 32.2gr and 32.4gr.

Unlike my previous test, this brass will all be the same lot# and it was all fire formed COW method.

I have a feeling that my lot of Varget will not want to go much further than this, but I want to find the ceiling.

My last loads @ 35.5gr showed no pressure signs at all. Nice round primers. Completely normal bolt lift.

Loads @ 35.7 & 35.9 are compressing enough to move my seating depth out ~.003. Not what I would call terribly crunchy at all, but compressed non the less.

Anything beyond 35.9gr will need a drop tube or a seating depth adjustment.

Thanks ,
I'm at 32.2 V. 105's Touching at 2.340 but it shoots really small.Im throated for Berger 88's they are match winners at 100y.
Drop tubes work if you need them.
Get 2 power cups . Let your scale work while you pour powder into drop tube.

Played with some more H4350 today.

H4350 finally gave me some pressure signs today. I ran 36.0gr of it under a 112 barnes match burner. Just a little bit of heavier bolt lift and a ejector mark. Nothing too serious. It was stupid consistent though. 2966fps out of a 26" proof barrel.

I ran 35.5gr under a Berger 109. Stupid accurate. 2934 fps.

Also got 35.9 gr under a 105 vld. No pressure signs. 2952 fps.

36.0gr is a very full case, even with a 6" drop tube. Its right at the bottom of the neck.

H4350 is a very viable option in the Dasher for my rifle.

I've reached out to the OP, but it doesn't look like he's been back since 2018. Has anyone compiled a record of all this info. to a spreadsheet? If so, I'd greatly appreciate getting it in a PM!!

My barrel is a 7.5 twist Hawk Hill do used at 26.5 inches. .272 neck with .105 freebore

Lapua Hydroformed brass, no neck turning, no weight sorting, no pains
CCI 450 primer
108 Hornady ELD-M
32.2 grains of Varget
.015 off the lands

2980 fps with SD of 3. Consistently 1/4 Moa out to 1100 yards. Past that it starts to open up.
I'll second this load. I'm at .020 off lands with these 108 ELD-M pills and running 33.5 gains of Varget to achieve 3,000 fps (slow lot possibly)..."generally" giving me sub 1/4 MOA at 600 yards from Heavy BR rig with 27" Krieger.

Just got mine put together. Rem 700 action trued, Bartlein fluted finished at 22”, TT diamond, HS precision stock. Waiting on a Leupold MK4 I found used. All work done by Mike Bryant of Wheeler, TX.
I’m wanting to try H 103 ELD-X with either H4350 or Varget. I have plenty of components s all I’m looking for is someone that has some experience with this bullet and powders In the 6 dasher.
We have a hunting lodge here and also a range that stretches to 1400 yards, so the load will be used both as hunting and target,

Tried this load in my 6BRX awhile back which is basically the same as the dasher (difference is shoulder angle)
Did not chrono the load. CAUTION - PLEASE WORK UP YOUR LOAD - RIFLES ARE DIFFERENT

Thank you . ☝️I have started reloading back in 1968 (38’s and 357’s) when I first started in police work. I always start low and work up. Darned good advice to everyone.

After many experiments and tests I've come back to Varget. The Dasher is VERY good with a wide range of powders that are slower and faster than Varget, and I can certainly feed it H4350 or RL16 as a very close alternative. but mine just shoots so good all the time with Varget. I just loaded 500 rounds to cover my next set of matches.

26" proof prefit on an Impact action
32.0gr Varget
Lapua Brass Hydro formed
Cci450
105 Berger VLD@1.776 CBTO
10 shots 2908fps SD 3, ES 7
First 5 went into .205"
The next 5 went into .260"

I'm probably leaving some speed on the table, but this combo just shoots for me everytime. If I can't hit a target, its not because I was lacking 50fps. I'll probably burn this barrel down with this combo and be happy.

Hope this helps someone.

Damn, I just spent the last hour reading through these posts from page 1 writing all this down. I should have started on page 12.
Thank you for posting this!

In my spare time, I'm working on compiling what I can from the data mentioned in these posts into an Excel doc. If you could, please enter future info in this order:

Bullet Weight
Bullet Manufacturer
Bullet Model
Brass Manufacturer
Powder (i.e. Varget, RE-15, N140, etc.)
Powder Charge Weight (in grains)
Primer Used
Velocity
Barrel Length
Freebore

Using the list above, in that particular order, will make creating the Excel doc. much easier. I'm only on page 2 from this thread so far, but I'd like to work my way through all of the pages on this thread. I will provide this Excel doc. to anyone who is interested when it is complete. I'm put another post on here when I've got it done. Might take me a few weeks to get it done (full time job, wife, and two young boys get most of my time in the day), but I'll keep working on it.
