6mm Dasher Loads

JDMock said:
RCW, the Dasher does have the shoulder moved forward .100"; only it has a 40 degree shoulder to give more neck. Good shooting, James

Not to go technical here, but there is only one specific location on the shoulder of a Dasher that has a .100" longer head space length than a 6mm BR (i.e. on the Dasher, the shoulder at the neck/shoulder junction is less than .100", and the shoulder at the shoulder/case wall junction is more then .100") so to say the Dasher has a shoulder .100" more than a 6BR is not accurate. It does at a very specific datum point (right around .350" in diameter) but nowhere else. I just don't want people to be confused.

Hi Guys
Im looking at building a Dasher can anyone advise what is the process for fireforming the brass and who is good for dies ?
Thanks for the help on this.

Here's a 5 shot group with 36grns Rl 17 and berger 105 match bullets. Thought I'd try the Rl 17 just to see if it would work and started at 34 and went up in 1 grn increments got to 36 and this happened also was a warm load. Was a .104 free bore reamer and a .272 neck. ;D. Was shoot'n of a bipod. Ill have to shoot through my crony and see were its at with velocity. Will post findings asap.

Went out and shot 3 quick one through the crony and got 3135, 3137 and 3140. This is how it went.

I have been load testing with viht n540 and n550, in my rifle n540 just wont work [ low velo and bad groups] n550 on the other hand just seems to want to group for you.
35grain n550 cci450 lapua 105g =2985fps 9/5 es/sd groups in the low .3's [ thanks erik]. The only problem is 35.2grain is a real shotgun load [ the only weight that will not group] so i'm a bit worried that when the air temp rises and the pressure goes up the groups may go away. The 2nd good load is 35.4grain= 3002fps 8/3 with a .4g window same grouping.
I have found that aol dosn't seem to make a difference in group size, 20th out or 20th in, but 20th in brings the es/sd down.
I think that a good guy with a top end rig and a good technique on the bags could do alot better than me so over to you guys.

6mm DASHER
The popular Dasher is very accurate and has set many records. It has a bit more neck than the BRX. Gunsmith Dan Dowling is credited with its invention. It offers about 3.5 grains (10%) more case capacity than the standard 6BR–good for an extra +130 fps with a 105gr bullet. Effective out to 1000 yds, the Dasher holds the NBRSA 6-target 1000-yard world record Agg. Pacific Tool & Gauge (Dave Kiff) is a good source for 6 Dasher reamers. Specs: 40° shoulder, blown forward .10″, Neck-length = .246″. Requires Custom Dies.

Redding, from time to time, produces Dasher Dies (Type 'S') FL Sizing.

Robert Whitley obtained a quantity of them from one of the recent production runs. You can order the Dasher FL dies through www.6mmAR.com.

For seating dies, the 6mmBR Redding Comp Seater can be modified to fit the Dasher, or the BRX. Or you can run a Dasher chambering reamer into a Wilson seater. Seater dies do not have to be hardened steel like sizing dies, so they are easier to modify.

Mark King carries them too.
He had them in stock when I couldn't find one anywhere else...

Have you Reloader 15 users found RE15 to be temperature sensitive? I have just switched from Varget (AR2208) to H4895 (AR2206H) due to recent lot to lot swings. I dont shoot the Dasher very often so I was after a powder which doesnt need different loads for winter and summer without big changes from lot to lot.

Has anyone tried the new Alliant Power Pro 2000 powder yet. I think it would be a good powder just have not had a chance to investigate yet.

I found a good load with RL-15,the Dasher chamber length is 1.560 FB.is.155 and it has a .266 neck.A DTAC pointed 115 and 33.5 gr. RL-15 groups have been,.101,.121 .157, .170 all are 5 shots and most in pairs. This is in a new Brux 30' barrel and it's on the top end. Speed is around an average of 2925, ran the numbers over jbm and at 1K it was a little flatter than the print out.
The longer free bore does make a difference so it may be too hot for you,use a little less to start...jim

I forgot to say the ES was between 9 - 4 and SD 3 - 0

I got a new 6mm Dasher about a month ago, worked up a load with 105VLD Bergers and RL15 at 100 yards. It shot a couple of 3-shot groups from .150 to .200 without wind flags. Ended up with bullets .013 off of a hard jam and 33.5 grs. of RL15. The next weekend I shot it at our club 520 yard match. First group was a nice 1.516 with four shots in .800. I couldn't be more pleased. It has a Defiance Machine action, Krieger 8-twist barrel and ST1000 stock. I hope to work with the seating depth and maybe tighten it up even more.

Anyone have experience with 8208 in a Dasher with 105's.

I have been shooting a XP-100 Dasher, 16" 8twist barrel with 105 Amax bullet and 31.6 grains of IMR 8208, been working great.

I have not tried the 8208 with a 28" barrel, seems a little fast for the longer barrel.

Any thoughts?

Randy

6mm Dasher, Stiller action.
Lapua brass, 34.3 gr Benchmark, Hdy 75gr V-max, 1-10 twist brux bbl. About 3450 fps and good accuracy.

I'D LIKE TO GET A BODY SIZING DIE,FOR A 6MM DASHER, LIKE THE ONES REDDING SUPPLIES.YOU KNOW THE ONE WITH NO INTERNALS,JUST TO RESIZE THE BODY NOT THE NECK.I CAN'T FIND A SITE TO SELL ONE.ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Here's my first groundhog load (yet to be proofed past 100yards) I've only done a handful of groups with this so far but its produced a .25 or better average out of several groups

1/12twist .060 FB
70gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips
37.5gr. Varget - a long drop tube needed and might be a bit hot in some rifles but I haven't noticed any in mine
-.020 off hard jam
3700 FPS

Here's some groups (I did a sight adjustment for the lower 2)
