6mm dasher Ideal freebore?

If you can contact Dave Kiff at PT&G, he will likely be able to give you most any info you need on what most guys are running for current reamer specs. He grinds a lot of reamers, and probably knows what the top guys are running right now. It's part of his job to keep up with what works best so he can provide shooters with the best dimensions possible for their reamers.

It's hard to say. We have seen some 6BRs and Dashers shooting really well lately with an extremely short amount of bullet bearing surface in the neck... if the bullets are jammed at least 10 thousandths (past initial land contact).

This allows more powder to be used. However, most of the Dasher guys are not filling their cases with the popular powders: RL15, H4895, Varget.

If you go to long with the Freebore, you do limit your ability to shoot the 90s and some other shorter 6mm projectiles.

I`m a definate fan of longer throats. I`d say .125" for 105 VLD`s would be perfect for my use.

The current lots of the 105 Berger VLD's have a longish bearing surface relative to the ones in the past and a .125" free bore is certainly not too long by any means. Overall case length is an issue too since free bore is added on to max chamber length and just asking for the free bore is only asking for half of the equation (common max chamber these days is typically around 1.555" - 1.558" for a Dsaher).

I originally went with a .115" free bore, but I would now tend to go a little longer (like .125") based on some of the bullets I am shooting.

I have been very happy with the .124fb in my Dasher I have been shooting the past couple of years in both my IBS 600 yard LG and HG. It is about as close to perfect as you can get for the Berger 105VLD's. They seat just above the neck/shoulder junction perfect. I even shot the 108BT Berger all last year in IBS 600 yard competition in them. The pressure ring was below the neck shoulder juction substantually with the 108's, but they shot great also. I have alway heard to not seat the bullet below the neck shoulder juction or it will not shoot. I guess my rifles never got the update on that technical bit of info. I don't think I will tell it!

Well the reamer I have that is laying in the reamer pile is a 269 neck and a 104 freebore. We'll chamber it and see how it shoots I guess.

From what I have seen, there is an ideal fb range for the 105VLD's. One is probably not any better than another. The range is from .104-.134fb. A.269nk is about perfect also. It is a light clean up with the old Lapua brass as well as the new Lapua in the blue box. I recently ordered a 6BR-DX to try. It has a .104fb and .269nk, just like yours. The BR-DX is like a short Dasher/longer neck. Samuel Hall

I have Dashers set up for 105`s and 115`s and freebore from .104" to .203" I just sent the 203" back to get it set back to .160". I`m about done playing with 115`s.
It seems the BR-DX dies are available from the designer, forget the gentlemans name. That chambering should be awsome. I wish some die maker would get serious about 6BRX dies. I love that chambering, just wish dies were available.

Sam, let us know about the rifle when it is built. i am extremely interested in this round, and there is not a whole lot of info on it.

I have a .136 free bore in my dasher, it will work with the 105's but it likes the 1115's and the 108's a lot better. I just ordered a new reamer with a .155 free bore to move the 115's out of the shoulder.
Frank Weber set a new record with the dasher at 1000 he shots a 105 bullet with a .155 free bore also......jim
