BRX & Dasher freebore

Danley

Danley Precision
What's the ideal freebore for a brx or dasher shooting the 105 range bullets? Will something in the .110 range work?

Kiff will suggest a .104" which to me is to short. This FB will rest the end of the bullet bearing surface all the way down to the neck/shoulder junction where the donut forms and will cause seating pressure differences. World record holder/shooter, dang most famous 600 yd guy around Sam Hall has stated on here about liking his Dasher reamer which he says has a .125" FB. Hard to argue with success.

I like a longer FB yet, and my last Dasher was ground with a .160" after many tries to get it "right" that indeed is where it`s at.

Tim,
You have a point but my Kiff 6brx .269 n/k and .104 free bore is working great along with the die I bought from from you ;) My boy shot a 8.564 group and a 96 score at the 1k match we were at this weekend, I know that's no winning group but for a 16 year old with a BVSS #12 savage with a 28.5" 1:8 Krieger it aint bad.

That is outstanding shooting. I know you are proud of him. I have 2 sons and neither of them seem to be interested in my long range rigs.

Thanks Tim, I am very proud of him. I don't want to steal Danley's thread so I will email you with a howdy do and some questions in a day or two.

Wayne,
Congrats on yours and your sons groups! Awesome stuff!

Danley,
I have not fired a round in my 6brx at this point. Although I have checked out my seating depth with the 105gr Berger hunting vld. With the bullet seated just kissing the lands I'm roughly at .030 above the shoulder/neck juction. I went with a .112 FB on my Reamer from PT&G. I can't say how things shoot yet, but things look good for what I wanted. It appears I will be able to easly stay away from the doughnut in the shoulder/neck junction, but have plenty of neck to well out last the life of my barrels.
Thanks
Mark

Mark,
Thank you for the kind words, we had fun and will do it again hopefully soon.
Do you think I should ream my throat out another .0010 or .015 ?
I would also like your opinion Lee? I have a .104 free bore and we are shooting 107 SMK's my BT is below the neck/shoulder junction but I am pretty sure the base or pressure ring is just about even with the junction. The Savage is already chambered but is no problem to pull the barrel, my 6brx hasn't been chambered yet so I could easily add more free bore to it, thanks for your input in advance ;)
Wayne.

P.S,
I am at .012 jam right now in the Savage and she is performing great if it weren't for the wind ::)

The Kiff reamer with 0.104 freebore should put the boattail/bearing length surface junction about 0.050 in front of the neck/shoulder junction and it works quite well with all bullets up to 107 grains.
For the longer Euber or 115's a longer freebore is nice to have.
Lynn
